Ready for Action

I am very excited to start the marathon program tomorrow. I am especially glad that I have friends who understand my passion for running. (Okay, so Suzie, maybe you don't completely understand the obsessive part of my passion, but you enjoy it with me!) It was fun running into friends while out on our long run yesterday. As I look at the next 5 months, I sometimes question the time commitment required. Then I remember this quote by a running guru, Dr. George Sheehan,

"I cannot put fitness in the bank. If inactive, I will detrain in even less time than it took me to get in shape. And since my entire persona is influenced by my running program, I must be constantly in training. Otherwise the sedentary life will inexorably reduce my mental and emotional well-being.

So, I run each day to preserve the self I attained the day before. And coupled with this is the desire to secure the self yet to be. There can be no let up. If I do not run I will eventually lose all I have gained-and my future with it."

I love this quote! I hope you all appreciate it. We have worked so hard!!

Ted,

I use www.gmap-pedometer.com You just double click on the area of the map and then zoom in. When you see the street you want to start at hit the button "start recording" and then you double click along the route. It is pretty cool!

I've used that one, too - very cool. I'm so jealous of your fancy watches, you two. Who needs mapquest when you have a gps watch?? :) I guess as long as I keep running with you I can just keep asking, "Kelly (or Ted) how far have we gone...what's our pace...etc...etc..." I'll keep asking SO many questions you'll finally force my husband to get me one, too! (A good plan for everyone involved, I think :)

OK, Kel... I know I just talked to you on the phone...but... remind me which marathon training plan we're following NOW. Is it the one in Runners World?

P.S. I love that quote! It really speaks to the runner in me - well, I guess that would be ALL of me. Running is so much of who I am and want to be!
