The Lone Runner

I called Suzie last night and told her it was time to find us a new route. I was planning on running 8 miles this morning, and was tired of the "usuals." I also told her I was ready for hills...
...wrong!! She took me and Heather on a beautiful country road. We had been running about 2.5 miles almost all uphill and my heart rate just wasn't doing well. My breathing was pretty labored, and I could tell it was going to be one of those days. I had to swallow my pride and tell the speedsters to go without me. I turned around to enjoy the downhill of what I had just gone up. It was so fun!

I didn't have my music so I knew it was going to be tough to finish the rest by myself, but I was determined to prove I could do it. I continued my run on some other back roads and it was awesome. I missed having my friends to talk to, but I love when I prove to myself that I am not a wimp. :-) I just tried to listen to my body and finish what I started.

I also didn't mention it, but I had a great 15 miler on Saturday. It definitely wasn't easy and Cherl's blog on mental strategies is what kept me going. Thanks Cherl!! I just kept telling myself, "Do I want to say I ran 12 miles or 15 miles? If I stop, my run is over. " Not the most positive mantras, but they kept me going! So, St. George is starting to feel possible. Wish me luck. Suzie P, thanks for going on this journey with me. I hope I can join you on the next run. I am glad to have you back!

Those hills were a killer! It took a lot of mental toughness on my part to get to the top. But once we did, the view was beautiful! And the downhill down the other side was dreamy. :) I am proud of you for finishing all by your lonesome. That can be hard. Good job!

It's time to confess that I haven't put running shoes on since the race. Part two of the confession is that I don't plan to until at least Saturday. You guys are making me look bad! ; )

Great run, Kelly! I'm always asking myself the same thing "Do I want to say I ran x miles or xx miles??" My own blog and this one keep me honest and motivated!
