running while pregnant

You may have heard about 27 year old Amber Miller, the woman who ran the Chicago Marathon yesterday -- nearly 39 weeks into her second pregnancy -- and then hours later delivered a healthy baby girl.  Amazing.  Incredible!  Some say her actions were selfish and she should not have run (walk) the marathon because of the potential risks to her unborn child.  I disagree.  I think a pregnant woman understands her body better than anyone and only she understands what her limitations are.  What do you think?  Did you run during pregnancy?

I did not run at all with my first pregnancy.  I ran prior to conceiving but pretty much stopped all physical activity when I learned I was pregnant.  With my second, I ran until about 14 weeks -- when I began doing more walking than running.  My "running" pace had slowed to a fast walk and even three miles felt like too much (and took too much time!).  That's when I threw in the towel.  I can't imagine running through a pregnancy myself, but I think it's awesome when another woman can -- and does!

A running pal locally ran the Chicago Marathon yesterday.  She passed Amber out on the course and said she was amazed that this woman was out there running.  The story is on every website, but here's a link if you need one.  Chicago Marathon

Chicago

My husband and I are in Chicago anxiously awaiting the Sunday marathon. We were able to go to the Expo today and that was amazing.

I have to share with you all about these new hats they have out. They are called Gas Caps- - -cute play on words meaning a hat that will hold your gel packets.I bought one today and it will hold 6 gel packs. Here is a picture. You can't even tell you have them up there. Now, I haven't ran with it yet so I don't know how well I will like it for sure yet, but it seems great.

I am completely overwhelmed by the busyness of this city and how many people are here. I am really nervous about finishing this race because my knee and hip have been hurting a lot again this week. A friend of mine said I should take some Aleve before the race- - -I have never taken any medicine before or during a run so what do you all think???

24 Days to Chicago! !

With only 24 days left before our Chicago Marathon, I am more worried about my "lack of fundraising" than I am completing the race.
Why in the world did we actually think we could raise $7,200?? I am usually not one to set my goals so far outside of my reach, but I believe I have. We currently have only raised $1,250.
So if anyone has any quick and easy fundraising ideas that would be FABULOUS! Or if you know of anyone that has suffered from leukemia or lymphoma and feel led to donate in honor of them, you can visit our donation page here: http://pages.teamintraining.org/vtnt/chicago08/mholleyxy5

I survived my 18 mile run Monday and will complete 20 on Sunday and then begin tapering down for race day. Does anyone else get a little nervous that the tapering down begins 3 weeks before race day. I am worried about the final 3 weeks before the race that the longest run we have is 9 miles. I am afraid my confidence for the LONG run will be diminished.

Reason For Running

Hello Marathon Mommies!! I have been lurking on the site for about 7 or 8 weeks now and I just LOVE this blog. I love it so much that I just HAD to be a part of it.

I am currently training for my FIRST marathon with my husband, Jeff, and we are going to be running Chicago in October. We are training with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Team in Training and are raising money for this cause. We have had two close people in our lives die in the past couple years from blood cancers, one being my dad, so we thought this would be a great cause to run for. I have always enjoyed running, but have NEVER officially ran a race- - -unless you count high school cross country. So this should be interesting.

Training is going ok- - -I have a few issues to deal with, but my goal is just to cross that finish line and come as close as possible to reaching our $7,400.00 goal for LLS.

If you would like to visit our personal training blog, you can visit us at Reason For Running or if you would like to see our Team in Training donation website, you can click HERE.

I appreciate all of the moms out there who manage to fit running schedules into their busy lives. I think you ALL are amazing and great encouragement to me.
