Forced Rest

One thing I hadn't anticipated in running a marathon is that it may very well put me out of running temporarily. I haven't posted much lately, because I am not running much lately! It's killing me, I'm so frustrated. I ran 2 the Thursday following the marathon. My foot hurt a little, but I didn't think too much of it. But it was hard, so I decided I'd give myself until Monday. Well, Monday I ran 3. My foot felt okay while running, but throughout the day it got more and more painful and the next two days found me limping my way through life. I haven't run since. I really wanted to yesterday, but forced myself to give it until Monday. And so, come Monday, I'll try, try again. In the meantime, I feel like I've gained 30 pounds (in my discouragement, all sugar resistance has eluded me) and I am aching to be running again. Argh. I'll let you know how Monday goes, but I am, as always, open to any suggestions.

Polliwog- I know how you feel about gaining 30 pounds! I feel like I need to totally re-train my body to stop craving carbs. I'm still running quite a bit but not like before the marathon. Sorry about your foot. Take it easy a couple of weeks and I bet you'll come out of it. Us "runners" are so hard on our bodies. Sometimes we just need to let them take a little vacation!

I hope your run tomorrow goes well. If not, it is just your body telling you to take it easy. Last year when I had my "surprise" pregnancy, I really hoped I could run through it. Sadly, I couldn't. I decided to enjoy sleeping in through the cold, rainy mornings. Luckily your break will most likely not be very long. Be proud of your marathon accomplishment and the hard work it took. You will be back in the saddle again in no time!

How was your run today? It's hard to not run, but it sounds like your body (feet?) may need some more time to recover. Is there something else you enjoy doing during the interim? You'll be back out there before you know it.

Well, I ran Monday (easy 3, no pushing) and my foot hurt all evening again, so I took Tuesday off and just assumed I'd be out for a few days. Suddenly in the middle of the day today I realized my foot wasn't hurting at all! My immediate thought was "Why am I not running?!" So I will, tonight, another easy 3. Maybe, just maybe, I can eek out 10 this week. I'm crossing my fingers.
