I Did It

I'm excited, I'm nervous, I'm committed. I clicked on the button that entered me into the Boston Marathon. Should I feel this nervous it's a full 6 months away. I look forward to all of the mommies support. I'm going to need it!

Well, you are truly an inspiration. I think that I experienced the same emotions as you did when I got up the courage yesterday to enter a 4 mile Thanksgiving Day run. I pushed the button, sealed my fate, and went outside for my first training day. Yes, brand new to running, still 30 lbs overweight from 2 back2back babies, but hey...I've got to start somewhere, right? It hurt, it hurt bad, but I pushed myself the whole 1.5 miles. It seemed like forever. It hurt so bad. Will someone out there be honest with me...will it really get easier, or is my 31 yr. old body just finished? Anyway, I'm committed and exicted, but mostly nervous. You women are an inspiration. I am amazed by all of you!

Thanks for your motivation and encouragement to all of us out here in cyperspace.

Erin,
Congrats! You should feel proud. Way to go on the 1.5 mile run. When you are first starting out it is very painful. Especially after having kids. Yes, it will get easier just push through the pain at first. You may experience all sorts of aches and pains. Hope you get addicted to running like the rest of us.

What an accomplishment! I wish I was ready to run a full marathon right now. Any tips or suggestions for a half marathoner? The thought of doubling my miles is WAY overwhelming right now. I would love to run at least one marathon - but I need all the advice I can get. You are AMAZING!

Kirsten, I am so excited for you! I wish I could be there with you. Someday! Maybe training with you for this will help me qualify for next year.

Erin,

I am always thrilled to hear someone has made that big step into running. We're here for you! It WILL get easier, I promise. You'll be amazed how fast it will happen. Maybe not today, or tomorrow... but sometime next month if you keep at it you will look back and say, "Wow! Did I really only start running a month ago?! I feel great!" I'm also 31 and had a baby 6 months ago, so I know it really is possible! Good luck, and come visit us often when you need encouragement.

Kirsten, Fantastic! What a great opportunity--and one that you've worked hard for. Can't wait to hear about your journey.

Erin--I'm 31 too! When I started running I could barely eek out a mile. I think it's the same "Wow, who knew I could do that?" every step of the way. Soon you'll do 3, then 5. And the weight will melt off; that's one of the reasons I love running. Stick to it. And keep coming here. It's a great place to find motivation and encouragement. Welcome!

(Erin, I'm WAY new to running and it really HAS gotten easier...even with all this weight I'm still carrying.)

polliwog - I'm waiting for these pounds to melt off... :)

Hi Erin,

Welcome to our group! We all started where you are and each time we have had babies or life changes, have had to start there again. :-) The good news is it DOES get easier. I really feel I didn't hit my "stride" until I hit 5 miles comfortably. So, just stick with it. Keep setting goals, you are on the right track. We are glad to have you join!
