What Have I Done?

Okay, I'm sitting at my computer crying and I can't stop. I just registered for the Salt Lake City Half Marathon and I'm surprisingly emotional and falling apart. I think it is because I am scared, but also because I finally feel like I committed to something that I have always thought about doing, watched others do, and never had the courage to try. My entire life I have been plaugued by the fear of failure. I have to recite to myself daily "What would you attempt to accomplish if you knew you could not fail". I'm terrified of failure and because of it I have not reached several goals in my life. I'm confident that with my new found friends at Marathon Mommies, I can finish this half marathon. I'm nervous and feel nauseated. Is anyone else going to be running the Half and not the full? I also need to lose some weight to make this easier on myself. Anyway. I registered and I am excited to meet any and all of you that will be there.

Congrats on this big step!! You have done 4 miles and that is such a great start! My advice is to find a training plan and then just follow. Then you don't have to think about what to do each day. You just have to trust the training plan. If you go to halhigdon.com or coolrunning.com they both have half marathon training plans. I am going to post right now asking people to share their training plans. My other advice is just to take your runs slowly. As you get into higher mileage, I would start carrying water or stashing water bottles and/or gatorade. We can help you with many more of your questions. We have all been there and we are still learning.

I, too, am afraid of failure. Such that I give up way too easily. You are my inspiration now! Thanks!

Don't worry Erin you can do it! I felt the same way when I did my first half but m&m is right, if you find a schedule and stick with it you will do fine. I would suggest Hal Higdons Novice program. His half marathon programs are usually 12 weeks and peak at 10 miles. I like to make sure I have a good solid base where I can run 3-4 miles easily. It sounds like you are there and ready to get training. Don't worry about time or how fast you are running just run to finish. You will be surprised what your body can do. I am going to try and run this race as well and I will be huge by then (6 1/2 months prego). I figure if I have to walk half of it oh well, at least I will have something to work on. So you won't be the only one out there. If you have questions on the training schedules just ask.

Thank you so much for your comments! They really have me excited and I actually have the Hal Higdon 12 week program printed out and hanging on my fridge. Monday is my start day and I am going to do start with 1 easy week to get back into a consistent schedule...we will also be traveling...and then I'll be ready to start! I'm excited and scared, but love the support I feel here. Thanks again for the comments!

Oh my word!!! I am so proud of you for signing up!! Just what, two days ago, when I asked you if you were going to do it, you sounded so iffy. I'm so proud of you. You CAN TOTALLY do this! I personally will be checking in with you to make sure everything is going great with your training. (Not that you need me to or even want me to, I'm just so excited for you.) Also, TJ's wife Lindsay is going to come and run the half.

P.S. Erin and I are cousins. (She married my cousin) I love her!

YOU GO GIRL!!!

Your post was written like you were reading my mind...and my heart. That's exactly how I felt when I signed up for my (one and only) half this past summer.

I'll be running the half...I'm on my way to register right now.

I'm so excited!
