Am I OK, Mommies?

I am a rule follower. I find comfort in following the rules. That being said...due to my infant son's ear-tube surgery and a really nasty stomach virus that conquered my entire family--myself included--I missed the entire Week 2 of Hal Higdon's Novice half marathon training program. Now, the requirements of the first two weeks were pretty easy for me, given the previous distances I was/am running, but I feel like all hope is lost for me to run the SL half....l didn't follow all of the steps so I won't be ready. I am supposed to run a combined 14-16 miles this week, which will be a challenge, but is about the level I have been running since October. My husband insists I will pick up just fine. But is there some sort of cumulative effect I will be missing? Do you all think I'm crazy? I'm just ready to sign up for this dang thing and quit trying to talk myself out of it!

Hey Niki,

You sound just like me. I am an "all or nothing" person. In the case of training, one week is not going to hurt you. In fact, the rest might have been beneficial. Start this next week right where your schedule says you should, and just run slower than you normally would. Your training is going awesome and you can't give up now, I won't let you! :-) You were in great cardio shape before you started your schedule and that will serve you well. I can't wait to hear about your next run. I am sorry you had such a tough week. I look forward to running with you again next Saturday! (Sorry this was such a long reply!)

Ditto to what M&M said. I can't tell you how many times I'm missed certain runs. You'll do great

YOU WILL BE SO GREAT!!!! Trust me, we have all missed weeks and everything works out beautifully. I missed the two and a half weeks before my very first half marathon and was freaking out, but I was totally OK! You can do it!!

This post was so timely for me, I'm so glad I read today! I should be in week 4 of my training and missed all week too, so feel like I'm starting all over this week. I'm glad to see that it isn't such a big deal and that from all you pros, it won't set me off too much. Thanks!

Don't worry about the time off - one week off won't affect your cardiovascular level. It takes about 4 weeks off before you would notice a difference. Like M&M said, just stick to your schedule, and take it slow since you're recovering from illness. You'll be fine! I KNOW you can do this. You are in great shape and I am so proud of you!!
