How you doin'?

I am stealing Chelle's saying (I hope you don't mind) because I am anxious to hear how everyone's training is going. Have you picked a training plan? Are you happy with it? Why or why not? How are you beating those winter blues? I love this virtual training together. All of you inspire me in many different ways and you encourage me to keep going.

If you are new to the site, please feel free to comment. We would love to hear from you too!

As for me, I am remembering how exhausting speedwork is, but yet how satisfying! I definitely am grateful for the mommies who meet me at the Y in the morning. It is what helps me get out of bed instead of rolling over and going back to sleep.

I hope all is going well!

I am new to the site and am training for the SLC half marathon. I am using Hal Higdon's training schedule. I am happy with it but I am having a major problem with knee pain. I looked it up online and I am pretty sure it is "runner's knee" Has anyone experienced this? What can I do to help it? Any advice? Thanks!

Runners knee is caused by your IT Band that runs from you hip down the leg and attaches to your knee. I'm learning about it because I am currently in PT for IT Band issues. My knee is not hurting but other parts of my leg are. Stretching and strengthening this muscle is very important. I'm sure on runner websites you can find these type of exercises. Hope that helps

Hi you mommies. I've posted a couple of times. I don't know the rules of your blog, though, so I don't want to intrude. I just wanted to say that my husband is interviewing for a job in Eugene, OR right now, and I have a sneaky suspicion a few of you are somewhere around there. If we end up there, I'd love to go for a run! I'm currently training for my first marathon and loving it! I'm also training for my first half marathon. Those two are going hand in hand. I'm doin' just great.

I've had a bit of the blahs lately....maybe it's because it's been at least -15 for the last 2 weeks and I have been resigned to the treadmill...uggh..I'm also having a problem motivating myself to break out of my comfort zone and REALLY run. Maybe it's the time of the year, who knows...However, the past few days I have had some challenges (eg. my VT companion and friend's husband was just charged with murder in iraq as a soldier...)but have found that when I step on the treadmill and let my legs work out my frustrations I feel much better and seem to gain insight as to how I can better help those in need...maybe it's the time out for myself, without the constant tugging by kids...whatever it is, even though I have had some challenges this week I am thankful for my daily runs...

Welcome to everyone we love to hear from so many. Amypete we would love to run with you if you move to Eugene. We are about an 1 1/2 hr drive north though. Good luck with your training. My training ok. The leg issues are intruding on my speed work though. I'm hopeful that the PT will help and get me going faster soon.

Welcome Cotter! Whenever I have had knee pain, if I rest it and ice it, it seems to get better after a few days. If it is still not feeling better, I would definitely see a doctor.

Foxontherun- Good job on your run yesterday. I will be fast enough to run with you someday. :-)

Amypete- I am glad you are dropping in. There are no rules to the blog! We welcome anyone who wants to blog about running to join us. Congrats on your first marathon training. Which one are you training for? Which half are you training for? We definitely could meet up to run if you move to Eugene.

Charity,

I am sorry it has not been a great week emotionally for you. It sounds like running has been a good outlet for you. I think that is why a lot of us run. I love hearing about your dedication to running even in the weather you live in. Thanks for inspiring all of us. I hope you are able to work through your challenges. You sound like a great friend!

I am still trying to do the Hal Higdon Intermediate 1 plan, but I would call it more of a guideline for me. With all this crazy MBA School application stuff it seems I miss one or two runs a week, or I decide to crosstrain when I'm not suppose to because something is aching in my body. But, I am not missing any long runs and I feel good on them so I know things are going just fine.

I am hating the treadmill when I have to go beyond 4 miles. I'm hoping that really soon I can do all my runs outside because we are getting more daylight. At least all my long runs are outside.

Welcome everyone, it's so fun to hear from you.

Amypete, what marathon are you doing?

Charity, I hope things get better and warmer!

I'm running a half marathon in Columbus, OH with a group of friends (5-6)in April. Then 3 of us are running the Bayshore Marathon in Traverse City, MI, over Memorial Day weekend. It's their 2nd marathon, but my 1st, since I was having a baby last summer during all the training. The marathon is a beautiful out-and-back along the shores of Lake Michigan. It's a small marathon -- 1700 runners. We're all friends of Polliwog's. I updated my profile so people can view it now, so there you go!

Hi ladies - I love your site and am so glad to have found it somehow through someone in blogland. I am training for a half marathon - Bryce Canyon in July. The most I've ever run at once was 7 miles, and that was pre-babies. So, I have a lot of work to do. So far, I've been following Jeff Galloway's training, which seems pretty similar to Higdon's. Any advice between the two? The only real problem I've had is that my legs are constantly wabbly. They feel really weak most of the time. I thought it would pass as I got more used to it but it's still there. ?? Sorry for the long post!

Hello Friends!!

I'm here! I'm training! I'm loving a little bit of sunny weather here in Salt Lake.

I did 14 miles last weekend and I'm planning on a 16 miler on Saturday.

WOO HOO for marathon training!

Lisamarie, You may be running a little too fast if your legs are feeling tired or weak. Especially on those longer runs. Just hang in there. Before you know it 7 miles will feel like a short run.
