Questions, I've Got Some Questions...

The title is a Jack Johnson reference -- any other fans of Jack out there?

Anyway, questions for the Salt Lake Marathoners (or anyone else with an opinion):

1. How long is your longest run going to be? I'm not going past 20 milers and it's making me nervous because on the other two marathons I trained for, I went up to a 24 miler. Any opinions or info on the pros and cons?

2. When are you out-of-towners scheduled to arrive in SLC? I would love to host some kind of a runner meet up, but frankly, it would stress me out to do it the night before the marathon. Any chance you gals are arriving before Friday? Or we could do Friday lunch? Let's start talking about some details. We're getting close, you know.

3. Has everyone chosen their marathon running outfit yet? That is SO important!! I can't believe I didn't list this question first! : )

I am only going to 20 miles as well, and I'm only doing it once. It has me very nervous since I read some peoples comments about doing 20 miles more than once. (I can't say if it's enough because I'm a first timer!)

I have NO IDEA what I'm going to wear and that also has me stressed.

AND I'm not coming to Salt Lake until Thursday at 5pm. I'm flying in with my mom and my sister is picking us up. Then we are going to hang in SLC city until my sister in law gets in at 9pm. I know, not good planning. So that's my schedule.

My stomach hurts thinking about all this marathon stuff. It's so close!

It's like you read my mind!! I'm so preoccupied about what to wear!! :)

I'm flying in Wednesday evening...I'm really looking forward to us meeting up somehow...can we all swing it???

Ok...everyone STOP STRESSING!!! I know it's easy for me to say this, since I'm not running SLC...but speaking from experience, it's going to happen regardless...I know, that probably helps NONE of you....

Ang...Don't worry about not doing more than a 20 miler, you are mostly training your body to run for a long period of time...not distance...you'll do fine once your pre-race jitters get worked out in the first 5 miles or so...

I would listen to all the Utahn's about what to wear, it's always better to dress warmer and be able to shuck stuff of along the way, than under dress and be pre-occupied with being cold.

I have to say though, last year when I did the Mayors Marathon up here in Alaska, I wore capri type pants and a short sleeve shirt and was fine. Along the trail at different spots they had "cooling off showers" that you could run through, so even if I had gotten overheated, I just ran through the shower and was fine...

I know, this probably isn't going to help anyone who is stressing out...but trust me, you'll be fine...

Although I am not running SLC, I will be in SLC on the 22nd if anyone wants to meet up after they run before they leave....

1... I did my 20.5 last saturday and that is the longest and only one I am doing. I felt great and in everything I have read it says your risk of injury shoots way up if you go much over 20 in training...

2...I get in from Dallas Thusday night at 8:00 so anything Friday would work :)...

3... as for what we are wearing... I will be running in a running skirt a tank and a long sleeve whirt to hand off along the way.... I hate being hot though... one of the girls I run with uses a simple little rule to helpdecide what to wear... she dresses for 20 degrees warmer than what it is and she is always comfortable... hope that made sense :P

M&M and I have already laid some plans for a get-together before the race. I just posted an open invitation (I've been meaning to do that!) to all you marathon mommies out there.

We are also ordering t-shirts similar to the ones shown on the side bar for anyone interested in wearing them during the race on April 19. Email me if you are interested. suziepetunia@gmail.com

I did 22 when I trained for mine. I thought it was great because it got me past "the wall" but didn't kill me like a 24 might have done. But I've heard that you are good if you can make it past 18.

Good luck! Wish I were joining you!

Hey Chelle,

Thanks for posting everyone else's fears! You know the marathon is getting close when you start worrying about every little decision and questioning your training plan! I am doing exactly the same thing. I am not going over 20 miles this training cycle either, so hopefully that makes you feel a little better. I have read that going over 20 miles just increases the chance for injury and prolongs the recovery. You KNOW you can do the full distance, just trust your training! You are going to rock this marathon!

I am debating whether or not to wear a skirt. It is pink and very cute, but I am not sure I have the legs for it, and I don't want to be wondering how I look during the marathon. I have too many other things to be stressing over! I will definitely be wearing a Marathon Mommies shirt!!

Our max for WRFDJ is 20, and then we're doing a 16 miler next week. That's the end of our long runs.

And I just got "the outfit I can visualize myself crossing the finish line in." Hip hip hooray!

And, M&M, wear the skirt! I just got a running skirt, and I love it! But, I need a tan first....
