To Fuel Belt or Not to Fuel Belt....

That is the question (for this morning).

In every half or full that I've run up to this point, I wear my own water belt. I'm thinking I might just rely on aid stations this time around (just carry my Gu).

Thoughts?

I have never used a belt. I hate the thought of having the extra baggage. I ususally drop my water which is a pain and more work but I just couldn't convince myself to use a belt. So how do you feel about wearing them? How many poeple wear them and like it? I guess I should at least try it out.

I always use the aid stations and they seem to work great for me.

I wore a fuel belt for St. George. I found that I didn't use it until the last 10k. I will not be carrying mine at Boston. I will rely on the aid stations.

Most important--no fuel belt=better marathon pictures!

I am debating this one also. I like to have my phone with me to let me know my husband know where I am :-) and it fits in the pocket perfect. However, I like foxy's point about pictures, ha ha!

Roxanne- I LOVE my fuel belt for training runs. They are pretty comfortable and don't bounce at all.

I got a feul belt a couple months ago since this is my first marathon. The first time I wore it, I wasn't so sure about it. But I did get used to it and I wouldn't leave home on a long run without it!!!

However, I have no plans on using it for the marathon! I feel like I might be able to run like the wind without it. :)

I'm glad you asked this question, I was wondering the same thing.

ohhh...good question. I wore one for my half. I don't love wearing it, but I didn't mind it either. I'm on the fence for this go-'round.

Fox, you sold me on the looking better in the pictures.

NO FUEL BELT FOR ME! : )

For training purposes, they are surprisingly comfortable and once you get in the groove, hardly noticeable.

Is everyone else loving the "all things marathon" chat as much as I am?

I am so glad someone brought this up! I posted a question about this over at the discussion forums. I have a waist style camel back that I love for longer runs and mountain biking, but really didn't want to wear it for the 1/2. With all you marathoners going the full without, I think I can handle the 1/2. Thanks!

so glad this came up...I'm training for a marathon in Dec but haven't gotten up to anything past 7 yet...didn't know if I needed one or would just drop water on my path...thanks for asking!

i was always taught to never depend on the water stations - you never know if you'll be dying of thirst at mile 10 and the next water station is at mile 12 ... 15-20 minutes (or however long it takes you to run 2 miles) can be a long time when your body needs hydration.

i start strapping mine on when i start anything longer than 8 miles. i've worn it for every event and it's been great.

there's my two cents! :)

I love my belt for long runs and use it on them, but on race day, I rely on the aid stations. I am considering the gu belt though. Hmmmm?!?
