Hi I'm new...

Hi, I'm Sharla and I'm new to Marathon Mommies, so I thought I'd introduce myself. I have been running since high school and ran my first marathon after my freshmen year of college. I had a very good support team, my dad ran most of the training runs with me when I did my first marathon, and my grandmother ran with me too. My dad still runs, and coached the Team in Training in Utah for sometime. My grandma, still runs too, and has run over 100 marathons. I also have a brother and his wife, who tri- and run, and have even organized a tri- for Provo. So you can see- some of this is just "in the family". I have done seven marathons, and more 1/2's and others that I can even count. HOWEVER.... since having 2 children, I have not done much running!!! I have done a few 5K's but have not really ran more than about 6 miles at once. I averaged about 3 miles a day after my first baby, and got even more than that in, as I was a P.E. teacher at the time. But after baby #2, it has proved to be more difficult than before, due to weight gain from babies, baby health issues, and not having the time that I need to train, etc. In a way, I am NEW to running again. I did sign up for St. George, so we will see if I get in. I think I should start with a smaller race at this time and perhaps I will find one where I live. I would love to do a 1/2 or full marathon again before having baby #3.....that is my goal for this year. In a nutshell, that is my "running life". I have been very inspired by reading this blog, and would like to thank all the Marathon Mommies who contribute and inspire! Hopefully I can have something to contribute also!! Happy Running!

Glad to have you Sharla! How fun that your family doesn't think your crazy for being a runner. I have a very active family too and one of my fondest memories is when a bunch of us ran a race together. I hope you get into St. George. There's nothing like a marathon looming in the distance to help you find the time to run. Welcome!

Welcome! I can't wait to find out if you make St. George. Good luck with getting your runs in. It does get a little trickier with kids, but also that much more great. Happy trails!

You can do it, Sharla! It's hard to give up our bodies for babies, but totally worth it too. Your grandma sounds amazing. How inspiring.

favorite marathon was NYC by far- it was just one big party- and I did it 15 years ago-1993- so it is probably an even bigger party now!
