New Kid on the Block

This is me, halfway through my first marathon (eating gummy bears). Check out that scenery!

Hi everyone!  I am new too.  My name is Courtney and I have been a runner since 8th grade.  I have occasionally taken breaks (pregnancy, etc.) but I always come back to it.  I ran my first marathon in October of '06.  I ran the Mount Desert Island Marathon. It was a on a Sunday, but since I don't run on Sunday, I appealed to the race director to let me run it the day before and he said I could. He even came out to shoot off the gun for the start of the race. I ran the first half by myself, one of my friends was my portable water station, and another friend joined me for the second half. I finished in 4:20. It was great, especially because the MDI marthon is very hilly but absolutely beautiful! There was even an article in the paper. Getting that finisher's metal was sweet. There is something special about finishing your first marathon. Like you conquered all of your demons in 26.2 miles.

A week later I found out I was pregnant with my third child (now 10 months old). I have had a really hard time getting back into the swing of things since then. I live in Maine, where the winters are long, but there are running trails galore.

I'm excited to join you all. Eager to say that I AM a marathon mommy instead of WAS a marathon mommy. Hopefully it won't be too long before I'm back in fightin' shape!

Welcome, Welcome! I'm so impressed with your determination to not run a marathon on Sundays. I would have never thought to just ask if I could run it another day. Many of us don't run Sundays either. Maybe we should try to do the same thing. We're so excited you've joined us!

I think that is such a great story about running it on Sat. instead of Sun. I did a few marathons on Sunday-but that was before I had kids. I won't run a race on Sundays now either- but so many are on Sundays- maybe I should try to do what you did- that is great that you did that!!

My husband and I are always looking at races and have been frustrated that many of them are on Sunday. How cool that you got to do your marathon the day before. That is pretty amazing!

I hope you love it here.... these women are wonderful.

I love that you are eating gummy bears during your run!! I LOVE gummy bears--eat them all the time to stay awake during all my driving for work--may have to try them out during a run!
