New "Marathon Mommy"!

Hello to all! I'm thrilled to be a new member of your group. My name is Tammi, and I am an almost-30 runner 11 weeks pregnant with our first child, due Christmas Day. My OBGYN and family practice doctors have all encouraged me to continue my routine for as long as it is comfortable. Prior to conceiving, I was running about 30 miles a week and had 6 half-marathons (and many, many smaller races) under my belt. Today I continue to run 3-4 miles about 4 days a week while continuing my twice-weekly light weight training class at the gym and a once-weekly spin class. I've also been continuing my local 5K race schedule, just not "competing"! I noticed immediately that I get winded and dehydrated much more quickly with the baby, so I am careful to slow down or walk when I need to and ALWAYS carry water.
It gives me a lot of encouragement to read your posts about running and continuing your fitness routines during your pregnancy. I honestly feel that I'm doing what's best for both of us - myself, and my child! My goal is to continue to run until it is uncomfortable (hopefully hitting that point LATER rather than SOONER!) and at least continue to walk my mileage out daily, keeping my race schedule intact.
If you are/were a pregnant runner I'd love to hear from you!
Tammi

I'm due Dec 21 with my first! I also am keeping up with the running (just got back from 9 miles, though I admit to walking most of the uphills!) and feel good and thing it's the best thing to do (at least as long as it feels good). I plan to do a half marathon in 3 weeks, just to do, not to compete. Like you said, I just feel slower, winded, etc. now. I think I could get used to the "no pressure" races, though it's tough to hold back (not that I was fast exactly, but I think now I might be officially slow).

Welcome, Tammi! Sounds like you're an experienced runner who will do just great. Enjoy being pregnant, and make sure you relax, too. Being a Mom is its own kind of workout!

Hi Tammi! We are glad to have you join us. I love hearing the stories from the pregnant runners. The good news is there are many of us who have survived childbirth and been able to pick right back where we left off. :-) The first pregnancy is so exciting. Keep us posted!

Great to have you here!!! I am a pregnant runner. I am at 27 weeks and beginning to slow down- more due to my sciatic nerve than anything. I ran a full and 4 half marathons this pregnancy in addition to some 10 milers and shorter races. My OB's supported me as well, and I have loved every minute of this pregnancy because of it! Good luck- can't wait to hear more from you!

It is so good to hear all of these running pregnant moms! I am 35 weeks pregnant and still running 3 miles per day. I have run through my last 2 pregnancies (with my water breaking while on the treadmill with my last baby). My advice...listen to you body. Slowly taper and slow down. I ran a 1/2 at 15 weeks and then started slowing going down in miles after that. Get a good belt to support your tummy and a good running bra!! Good luck. You will be amazed what your body will be able to do!!!
