Time for a New Challenge!

I don't know about the rest of you, but after a big race, I have a hard time getting motivated to run again. Even though I love running, especially the way I feel when I finish, if I don't have a schedule I am following it is hard to get out of bed.

So, Niki reminded me that we haven't had a challenge for a while, so here's how it's going to work.

Beginning Monday, May 26th, check in here whenever you go for a run. The person who logs the most runs by Saturday June 14th will win a Marathon Mommies or Moms That Run Decal.

It takes 3 weeks to make a habit, so let's start now! Those of you who have been wanting to run, now is your chance to be rewarded! We will have 2 winners- so that new runners will not feel like they have to run 5 or 6 days a week to keep up. (Which you shouldn't do when you are starting up! That is the quickest route to injury!) The 2 categories will be: a. experienced runner and b. new runner

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at kelmarker@gmail.com

Otherwise, good luck and have fun running!

Please use this post to keep track of your runs. We will keep a running tally on the side, but please update your total in the comments each time your run!

Awesome Challenge! This is exactly what I needed! Thanks! I just finished my first 1/2 marathon and I need some added motivation to keep me running! I am doing 'relay for life' in a couple weeks here in Boise. That will be fun!

Have a Good Memorial weekend everyone :)

I am TOTALLY in! :) Thanks for the reason to pry my eyes open at an hour that should be unspeakable

Latter-day Runner said...

Great idea! How about one more category: pregnant runners! Okay, that might narrow the competition too much. As long as I don't have to report my pace, I'm game.

JP said...

I'm in like Flynn...I needed something to get me excited. :)

Megan said...

Sounds fun.

Sounds fun!! Cant wait :)

I've been in blah land for the last month...this is just the motivation I needed..

I got in 4.25 this morning in 90+ degree weather at 6 AM.... it is going to be a long summer :(

Kelly(M&M) said...

Good job, Erin! I lived in Austin for 1 summer and tried to run and couldn't! I ran on the treadmill in the air conditioned gym.

So, I ran 5.25 miles this morning. It was nice and cool.

How did everyone else do?

foxontherun said...

I ran three miles this morning and then swam in a 65 degree pond. How fun is that?

Staci Rocha said...

2 miles :) I wanted to take the day off since it's a holiday but I ran 2 miles and went on a hike with my family :)

Latter-day Runner said...

I ran three miles today. I ran uphill for the first mile and a half, and I enjoyed every moment of the mile and a half back down.

Bart, Erin, Hunter, Jorden and a couple of crazy dogs said...

Three well ventilated treadmill miles and some weights this morning :)

Megan said...

I did 3.5 today (tuesday), very slowly pushing the 1 year old and 4 year old in the stroller.

Latter-day Runner said...

I ran another 3 miles today. It was a little harder than yesterday since I took my toddler in the jogger. I think she had more fun than I did! So that is 2 runs for me thus far.

Anniebananie said...

5 miles this morning (Tuesday May 27th). It was a Beautiful morning and a beautiful sunrise. Aaaahh the good runs make it worth my time!

JP said...

I jogged/walked on Saturday with Tifferbob...but I have no idea how far we went.

The Foster Bunch said...

Ok this is going to be so fun!. I am sorry this is late entry, but I have been camping in the boonies of Wyoming. On Monday I ran 4.6 miles. Thanks!

Bart, Erin, Hunter, Jorden and a couple of crazy dogs said...

3.5 more for me this morning plus almost 11 miles of hills in spin class :)

Latter-day Runner said...

Third day...third run. I ran three miles in the cool of the morning. This was a wonderful run. My 9 year-old son actually dragged me out of bed this morning to get me to go. He ran the first 2 miles with me. I'm glad that he was motivated because I was going to skip today.

Tifferbob said...

I ran 3 miles last night. (new runner catergory)

wind runner said...

Does 16 miles on the 17th count?
Probably not...but here's this weeks count so far---
26-4.8
27-5.6
This is awesome. Usually the weeks after a long run I have a hard time staying motivated- and not exhausted but this will get me out the door! Thanks!

amydear said...

Augh! I'm dying because I can't run this week. I might have to run twice a day to make up for it. My knee is still hurting after the marathon, so I'm just chilling, trying not to eat my extra running calories. I think my body is in sugar withdrawl! Let's have another contest soon. I will donate the bling!

Megan said...

I did 6 today, Wednesday May 27.

Kelly(M&M) said...

I walked/ran last night for 3 miles with 2 friends that are just beginning to run. I LOVE helping people in their quest to become a "runner"! I also love to chat with my friends while we run. :-)

Keep up the good work ladies!

Alicia said...

Sorry, I am late in posting. This is awesome- I need the challenge. Here are my runs this week:
5/27- 2.3 miles :( I wanted 3
5/28- 3.3 miles
Both days pushing a jogging stroller. Uhg! I don't like running with a stroller.

Alicia said...

Oh, and I am definitely a new runner.

The Foster Bunch said...

So this morning I ran 4.5.
Thanks!!!

Lindsay S said...

2 Miles for me today (Wed.) I wanted more but my baby was screaming in the gym day care...couldnt finish :(

Bart, Erin, Hunter, Jorden and a couple of crazy dogs said...

10 miles for run number 4 for me :)

Latter-day Runner said...

I did my 4th run today. Only 2 miles, but I had to get home so my husband could get to work. My son ran along w/me again, and I had fun helping him with his target zone and running form. It is really hard to try to explain running form to a 9 year old. My goal is 15 miles a week during my second trimester, so maybe I'll run 4 on Saturday.

Kelly(M&M) said...

2 miles in the rain for me. I never realized before this year how much I would enjoy running in the rain. It makes me feel like a "real" runner. :-)

The Foster Bunch said...

Today I got in 4 good miles before the wind and rain decided to hit. You have to love our Idaho weather!!

Anniebananie said...

I ran 4.5 miles this morning. So that is two runs for me.

wind runner said...

Another 6 on Wednesday the 28! Yippeee!

Charity said...

Hello,

I was lying about on the couch Tuesday afternoon when suddenly it hit me: the thought that I cóúld go for a run. So I ran 40 minutes on Tuesday!

Thursday I followed John 'the penguin's' schedule for the 10K and ran 48 minutes.

And all this in a very strange tropical heatwave. Strange, because I live in the Netherlands which is ususally not very tropical!

foxontherun said...

My patience runs are working. I am slowly able to run 5 miles a little faster each time without raising my heartrate. Yeah. That is two for me.

Tammi1407 said...

3.1 for me on the 29th, 3 for me today (30th - plus 1 hour of spin), and 3.1 for me tomorrow morning (5K)!
Thanks for the motivation!

I just remembered that we are doing this- I will update on the days I do it now.

Put 3 down for me so far- MWF runs, each one 3+ miles.

O.K last week I was a SLACKER! I only ran once and that has not happened for 9 months. I normally run three-four days a week. 12 plus miles. I needed a little vacation from running I guess :0 I woke up early this morning and ran 4 miles.

Total - 2 runs

Jessica said...

I've been on vacation--but I've been running (and biking/swimming). Anyways I am at a total of 4 runs.

Charity said...

Ran again, total of 2...I can't convince that hubby of mine to do anything but bike...now that kids are out of school and with him in school AND working nights, I'm having a hard time finding time to go...how DO you fit 3 kids in a double wide jogger????

So, perhaps, this week I will have more than my measly one last week...Starting out good, it's Monday and I managed....

again...total 2...lame I know....

I have ran a total of 3 times during the contest period. What category do I fall in, M&M? Compared to you "crazies," I'm a newbie!

Anonymous said...

Add 3 more for me...I swear I will start to do this daily. Sheesh.

Today's run sucked so bad, but in the "doing this for your own good" kind of bad and I was glad it was over.

Alicia said...

6th run was today- 3 miles.

Kelly(M&M) said...

I did my first combo workout today- swam for 30 minutes and ran for 25. It was tough, but it felt great, and doing it with friends always makes it better!
Erin- You are out of control! :-) You are amazing!
Charity- sorry I missed your other run before. How are you doing?
Sticky Niki- I would still put you in the Newbie category because you are still in your first year. :-) We will continue to bring you to the dark side, ha ha!

Bart, Erin, Hunter, Jorden and a couple of crazy dogs said...

#10... yes that is double digits.... was 3.27 miles after swimming and a spin class.... it was hard but I think it was the 40 mile an hour winds/85 degree temps/ 75% humidity.... or maybe it was the 20 mile loop I took my new bike out on last night... regardless it is still #10 :)

Tifferbob said...

#4, ran another 3 miler.

foxontherun said...

Thanks for the run this morning Kelly. It was fun! That's 5 for me. Only, When Oh When will summer come.

So---add two more for me....that should be 9 total. I'm really glad we're doing this right now or I seriously would not be running. It is the windiest-yuckiest June we've ever had. Yesterday's windy run wiped me out so bad I was falling asleep in church today- my fingers are tired I'm so exhausted from the effort. I was running 12 minute miles and I'm usually under 8! It's making me very grumpy! Just had to get that out there even if no one reads this.

Anonymous said...

#8 for me today- with my husband...it's shocking really!

Tifferbob said...

#5 for me, Ran a 5K with JP today. It was lots of fun!

#7, 8, and 9 for me. I was supposed to do 3 runs in preparation for Wasatch Back on Saturday the 6. I somehow squeeked them all in for.

I love seeing 100 comments!

So, I had a fantastic run with foxontherun on Friday. We did a slow 5 miles and just chatted.

I did a 5k on Saturday, the Nike 5K for Kids, and got a PR and a third place finish in my category, woo hoo!

I started my triathlon schedule today- a nice 30 minute run and then I lifted weights.

So, I am up to 9 runs! This is fun!

I did 4 miles on Saturday (7th), 3 miles on Sunday (8th) and 3 miles today (10th). I did a lot of spin and biking last week - the weather in Dallas was too hot to pound the pavement at my usual 6pm! Hubby moved the treadmill into the AC from the garage, so I'm BACK!

I started out so well on this challenge. I did five runs the first week, and then ... nothing! But on the afternoon of my fifth run, I began to move into a new house. I've been busy unpacking, cleaning, organizing, etc. during the past two weeks. I'm looking forward to the next challenge after I'm all settled in (90% there, I hope) and after I've delivered the baby (I've almost reached the beginning of my 3rd trimester). Thanks for the challenge!
