I'm leaving on a jet plane...

Dear San Francisco...

Here I come!

I'm off to run the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco. My training has been awesome up until my last long run. Things have been going south ever since. Darn hills.

But, I will not miss this race...not an option for me.

I got a cortisone shot today. Yahoo! Had a pow wow with the Doc and I don't think I can do too much permanent damage with my left knee. I'll just have a mother load of pain to run through, but hey...no pain, no gain...right? It's my darn IT Band, and it's consumed my thoughts these last few weeks. Ice has become my constant companion, and the ever popular Ibuprofen.

I board my plane tomorrow. I've accepted the fact that this won't be my best race, but I have also accepted the chance that it could. I'm hoping it will be. I'm sure that 20,000 other women running for cancer, while being entertained by bands every mile will help to keep my mind off the pain. Oh and the men in tuxedos passing out little blue boxes with Tiffany & Co necklaces. Oh yes, I will finish this darn race for that. It will be very exciting. I can't wait. I had some other goals going into this, but seeing my current condition, I will have to settle with the same goal as last year....to finish. And I will be okay with that.

I love to run. It's like air to me. So needed.

I am really looking forward to this.

Bring on the pain!

Wow! sounds like a good race! And the tiffany jewelry...pretty cool. Good luck to you!

Just FYI, when you get home you should have your hips checked. My IT band was giving me so much trouble I had to back outtraining for the Portland Marathon. I couldn't even bend my leg. It was awful. But then I had my hips checked by a PTA and my left hip was what she called "up slipped" it was out of place and up, thus putting extra strain on my right IT Band. Go figure! She put me back in place and I was up and running fine two weeks later with no pain.

I will be sending positive vibes your way! Enjoy the race!
