Things I learned during my week of slacking off...

1. Sleeping in and missing a run does not make me feel more rested.
2. Sleeping in and missing a run does not make me a better house cleaner. (Worse in fact, I need the structure!)
3. Sleeping in and missing a run does not give me more energy with my kids. (In fact, it gives me less!)
4. Sleeping in and missing a run makes me miss time with my friends.
4. I need a plan and a race to be training for to keep me getting up in the morning.

For a long time I have wondered if the benefits of getting my run in truly outweigh the benefits of getting more sleep. I have always been too nervous to try and find out. This week, I fell off the running bandwagon hard core. I did not wake up once to run early. (Sorry, my early morning friends.) I did swim one day and a boot camp class another morning, but other than that, I was in my bed until 7am. (or later!)

So, I learned my lesson and I am ready to go again! I am ready for my next plan. Who is with me?

My main goal is the Newport Marathon on May 30th. I will be attempting to qualify for Boston if my training goes as planned. (injury free, knock on wood!) I will also be running the Hippie Chick Half Marathon on May 9th with my sister in law, Kristyn. It is her first half marathon and she is one of my favorite people, so I look forward to spending around 2 hours (give or take 30 minutes!) talking her ear off like I do my local running buddies! Anyone who would like to join us, the Hippie Chick is an all women race. The registration starts tomorrow and it sells out fast. The T-shirt is awesome and they give away a sterling silver necklace as a medal!

I would also love to have anyone join in my training for Newport. It is a beautiful, flat marathon on the Oregon Coast. The weather is perfect and all you runners who live at a high elevation will benefit racing at sea level! It is also one of the cheapest marathons ($50), you can use that as a good point when you have to convince the hubby to buy a plane ticket!

Please feel free to email me at kelmarker@gmail.com if you have any questions. We would love to have as many Marathon Mommies as possible join us at either of these events.

(Then of course, there is also the Wasatch Back- woo hoo!! I can't wait for this one. )

Thanks for letting me admit my laziness this week. :-)

PS
Those of you wondering about my no-sugar plan- I am happy to say I made it 5 weeks! I did give in and enjoy ice cream every night on the cruise, but now that I am back, I am trying to keep out the sugar. How about the rest of you?

Hey Kelley~

I could have given you a heads up on all those lessons without out both of us having to learn them :)

So excited to know you are being a crazy Ragnar runner with us :)

i totally understand all that. i forget about how addicted i am to running-produced endorphins.

i'm jealous of all your fun runs (and fun people with whom you run) on the opposite coast.

I came home late last night from a halloween party & just didn't feel like getting up to run this morning...but after reading your entry last night, I pulled myself out of bed and went ran 3miles this morning. Thanks for the motivation!Amen to everything you said!

I'm on the opposite side of the fence - I fell of the bandwagon 3.5 yrs ago after I completed a K while 6 mos pregnant with my 1st DD. Now that DD #2 is 16 mos old I'm ready to try to drag my butt up and get running again. I can't wait to get back! That said tomorrow when my alarm goes off I'm going to have to muster an insane amount of motivation to slip out of my warm bed into my running clothes - maybe I should just sleep in my tights for the 1st week?

Amen to that too. I'm feeling the same way right now and slowly but surely getting back on the running wagon. I'm more 100% when I do run.
