Fair Weather Runner?

Can I just say I love running in the snow? What is it that calls to me? I love the soft, winter white scenery. I love the quiet sound of the falling snow. I love the peaceful feeling as I run. There is something different about it. Sure, I love running in the Spring, wearing just a single layer. However, when I get all bundled up and head out there in 15 degrees (or less) I feel like REAL runner. It's like being a sports fan even when your team loses. (And I don't mean to imply that there is disappointment involved here, I truly enjoy a winter run) I just mean that I am there for the real thing. I'll take whatever it gives me. I love the run. On Saturday I had my first real winter run of the season. And even though I had to wear 3 tech shirts on top and 2 layers on the bottom, gloves, and a hat, I was ecstatic. It felt so good to be out there breathing in the fresh, cold air and looking up at the beautiful white mountains covered in snow. It's fabulous.

Do you love running in the winter or are you a fair weather runner?

I have to agree with you. . . I have really been enjoying my morning "snowy" runs. We have about 2 feet on the ground right now and I just got off the phone with my running partner to verify we were still on for tomorrow. It is very peaceful and calming. It's just a nice change! So, I say. . .Bring it on!

gosh i wish there was snow here in which to run. but if it was here, i'd totally run in it.

i'm still fair-weather however. but i avoid hot-weather running, not the cold stuff.

I want to live where you live. I grew up in CO and am so homesick for cold weather running:)

I love it too...but I grew up on a farm in OKlahoma where the dirt roads were easy to run on when covered in snow. Now I live in a city where the sidewalks are tretorous and icy! How do you do it? How do you now slip and break a leg? I have been using a treadmill at the Y which for me it is simply impossible to run more than 4 miles on a treadmill. So any suggestions as to how to run on icy and snow covered city sidewalks would be greatly appreciated!

I am impressed. We have had snow in Portland and I ran all 3 of my runs on the treadmill-including a 15 miler! So, you have inspired me and I am gonna go for a morning run in the snow. I love your description- good job!

Hey Brandon Family, you might look into Yak Trax to to put on your shoes. They grab the ice and snow so you don't slip. They're about $30 I think.
