Wowie...it has been a while since I have visited the blog. So I am still getting the hang of having five kids and I am tired and happy and overwhelmed and ready to hit the pavement. I am struggling with getting out there and I need to get on track for the wasatch back. I am so glad so many of you are doing it. I wish I could be on two teams! I am turning to all of you for some motivation! Any great suggestions for getting back at it?!?!
Uuuggghhh! I have weight to lose and sleep to get and I am having a hard time finding some running buddies. So I thought I would turn to Marathon Mommies.
I ran the Salt Lake marathon last year and met some of you and you are all so inspiring. Looks like there are even more mommies now! So Great! Anyways...I am commiting to running more by turning to this blog a little more.
BTW...my little Josie is a doll! I just have to show you all a cute picture of her. Also I got to go cheer on my girls and hubby in the 5 mile race in Moab last weekend and man I am anxious to do the Moab 1/2 again.
So...what do you think...am I crazy to think I can register for my second marathon? Should I try for St. George? Is it ok if I am as slow as tar? What are your tips for getting back in to running without doing it too fast? I want to avoid injuries.
Hope you are all good! Can't wait to hear about all your upcoming races and training fun!

Hey- it sounds like you're in the Salt Lake area? You should check out locomotion running club (www.runloco.com). You can come and just check it out anytime. It is a no-pressure, fun group. We have every pace from slow to fast, so you don't have to worry about not being able to keep up. I don't think I could keep training for marathons without my club. It's awesome! Most of us will be training for the Wasatch back, so that would be good for you. We also train for St. George. Check it out!
After my baby I spent a lot of time walking before I started running again. And when I started running I only ran for a couple minutes at a time. I would do a walk 2 minutes, run 2 minutes thing for 20-30 minutes. Eventually I increased my running time until I was running the whole time. I found a walking/running partner too and that helped immensely. This run/walk program was awesome. I felt great.
Congrats on your cute baby and good luck!
That baby is about the cutest ever!!! Annie, did you know I moved to Orem? We can meet up for runs now! How close are you to me? So excited to have you back!
Your baby is darling! Good luck with the running. :)
I think you should go for St. George; it is actually a relaxing course with the gradual reduction in elevation. It was my first marathon, and I ran it when baby #3 was almost 11 months old. You have more than enough time to train for it. I had baby #4 at the end of September, and I started running again the day after he turned 4 months. I've been at it for 8 weeks now--I still have too much baby weight and not enough sleep, but a mid-May marathon date keeps me going and I feel better after every run (even if the run was horrible, it feels good to finish it). I think the first three or four weeks of the training schedule are the toughest, but your body will respond and as the mileage gets longer, it actually gets easier, unless you consider the more complicated daycare issues for longer runs. :)
Hi Annie!! It is so good to hear from you. Josie is adorable!! Congrats again. Beginning running after having a baby is different each time. Just start very slow and you will be fine. I definitely would encourage you to sign up for St. George. You have plenty of time and you can train as slow as you need to. I ran St. George 5 months after having my 3rd and even though it was crazy, I think the reason it was such a good experience was because I took it at my own pace and was just grateful for each mile. Good luck!! And keep us posted.
I second the walking, taking it slow ideas. My baby is 8 months old today and I just finished the Pacific Coast half marathon yesterday. Though it was hard (so many dang hills!!) I came away from it with a time that surprised me and with a feeling that I could run a marathon in a couple months if I wanted to. (I think I'll wait for St. George only because of Wasatch Back in June). I think St. George is most definitely within your reach. Good luck. It takes commitment to run distance and to train when you have a small baby, but it is only that much more exhilarating to cross the finish line. And YES it's okay to be slow. You have to expect and embrace that! :) (I am still a full minute per mile slower and am still carrying around 15 pounds baby weight. And still nursing too.)
Give me a call. I'll run with you anytime! :)
