Another Race Report

The weather decided to cooperate on Saturday and we had great conditions for the SLC 1/2 marathon. I ran with my friends Heather (left) and Kaylyn (right), as well as my husband, though he didn't stay with us. We had a great run. Kaylyn and I stuck together and ran most of it at 8:30 pace, a little faster than we normally run. The downhills helped (though my quads are sore today) and the race seemed to fly by, with the help of my fav running mix. About mile 9 I realized that I just might have a chance to beat my time from last year which was 1:55. I got really excited and tried to up the pace a little. By then we were running through Liberty Park and I was thinking- it's just a 5K- we're almost done! I was so pumped. A few minutes later I passed the turn off at 4th South and realized that they changed the route! I had heard the 5K route was changed but maybe they should have mentioned ALL race routes were changed... Anyway, we ran straight up State Street to South Temple and I saw a lot of people dragging. Fortunately, I run hills all the time due to where I live, so it wasn't bad. I liked the ending better than the old long, straight chute through Gateway. The last mile I gave it all I had and finished in 1:51, a new PR! It felt great to have done better than I planned. I am now setting my sights on blowing that PR in August at Hobble Creek- I don't know, maybe 1:50 or less?

Nice PR!!! I enjoyed your report and I am sure you will crush it again. Way to feel confident on the hill. I am trying to run more hills so I am not quite as apprehensive when I hit one. Congrats and thanks for the report.

Congrats on your PR! I'm sure you'll beat it at Hobblecreek. I ran with Heather for a couple of miles around mile 5 or so- I know her from when she was in my running club a couple of years ago. I ended up leaving her, so I didn't know how she did. Tell her hi for me. It was fun to see her again. I ended a couple of minutes behind you with a 1:53. Good job, once again!

Great time. I thought mile 12 was a bummer too. Good luck at Hobble Creek. I've been tempted to run that race. I've heard it's a fun course!

Man, I wish I could say that hills didn't bother me. ONE OF MY GOALS, to say the least. I think I need to move to improve my running. :)

Congrats on such a fantastic race! That really is so exciting.
