How Running is Supposed to Be...

...enjoyable! Once I discovered running with friends, I found my true calling! There is just something about sharing thoughts and feelings while pounding the pavement. I haven't been feeling great since about March, so I have had to do a lot of runs alone. I don't mind that every once in a while, and sometimes I need to be alone, but I have definitely missed my friends. I have great running partners in Oregon and am very lucky!

Today I was able to meet up with Heather(who is one of my Oregon running buddies also visiting Utah!), Kristyn (my sis in law!), and Erin (who I know and love from this site!). We took the picture after the run and we were missing Heather. We had one of the best runs I have had in recent months. It was a beautiful 10 mile run along Legacy Highway. If you live here, I completely recommend this path! The time passed very quickly and I so enjoyed the conversation. I needed this run! So, I wanted to thank the girls for joining me today and also all those who have run with me in the past. I learn from each of you!

How about the rest of you? Do you have good running partners? Do you prefer to run alone?

I would enjoy running with someone every now and then but so far I am pretty much a weirdo (excuse the 80s language) in my area.... dont know but one other mom who runs over 3 miles :)

hahaha---that pictures seemed to look a lot better when I stole a quick glance after we took it. Seeing it in all its glory now...........ummmm..not so cute! We should have taken a pic BEFORE the 10 miles, not right after.

It was such a great run though and I am so happy I got to do it with you and Erin. GOOD TIMES GIRLS! LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!

I'm much in the same boat as Ruthie...I am the also pretty much the town weirdo and the only girl who runs over 3 miles at a time..so I haven't found anyone in my area to run with. That's ok though, I think that I also like my alone time. I do occasionally travel up to the area where more of my running friends are and run with them or do races with them and that is fun too! It makes me appreciate having people to run with all the more when I have the chance :)

I am a coach for a running group, so during the summer pretty much all of my weekend long runs are done with the group, It's enjoyable - even when you're not keeping pace with someone. Just being able to see other people out running twenty miles at 5 am on a Saturday is nice. It helps knowing you're not the only crazy one! =) But I do enjoy the peace and quiet and time with my own thoughts on runs too. Pretty much all of my midweek runs and runs in the winter are alone.

I run alone unless I can convince my hubby to come along. (he's addicted to soccer so unless he's chasing a soccer ball he's usually not running) I don't mind running by myself, but I would prefer to run with someone. They help to push me harder and farther.

I just don't have any luck finding someone to go with. But I'm still looking.

I started running for marathons with a group in 2007, which I loved, then hubby got interested in triathlons and so I accommodate to fit his schedule. This year he has committed to an Ironman, so I will be doing my long runs on Mondays after work (which is fine since I only work 9-1) but I do try to fit my schedule around my family.

Because of this trying to coordinate a run with anyone is nearly impossible. However, I do have a friend who is doing more races with me (although they are the shorter distances). It's mostly difficult with little kids and most other mothers will kids under 4 don't do the marathons.

I life goal is to do the 50 marathons in 50 states but can only commit to 2 marathons per year (yes I know this means I still have 23½ years to go). This year I have signed up for Big Sur and am still searching for my fall one (although St. George is looking interesting!) I do love to travel and it would be great to meet up with other marathon mommies at races around the US. I've done 4 marathons, in 3 states and can't join the 50 states club until I have completed 10. Anyone else interested?

I used to run with friends in college. I liked it but with my schedule I have to run myself. I enjoy the quiet time.

Father Runner is my favorite partner. We pound out the pavement, solve the problems within our 4 walls, and have miles without being interrupted with a "Mom?"
Plus - know how to pray for each other until the next run. Bonus!

My friends and I just finished the Santa Barbara International Marathon. There is no way I could have ever endured the training or the race without my running friends. Running is a great stress relief, not only from the physical aspect, but also because it is during these runs that I can share my deepest thoughts and worries with my friends.
