A Mommy Has a Question!

Jennifer emailed me with a question for the Marathon Mommies! Does anyone have an answer for her?

I actually have a question that I would love some help with from the other mommies on the blog. I have a 22 month-old boy and I am due with my second child in a couple of weeks. I am so excited to get out and run again! I have a baby jogger q series stroller right now, which I have LOVED with my son. I ran tons with it, so I loved having the locked front wheel. In my search for a double jogger, I am wondering how models with swivel front wheels that lock work when you are actually running. Does the lock work well for a smooth run, or does it cause problems? Which brands do the other mommies recommend? Thank you so much for your help!

Sincerely,
Jennifer
Good for you for getting out with the kids for a run! A lot of moms know that is a good (difficult!) workout.

I have a Schwinn jogger and it has a swivel wheel...I never lock it and have no problems with it.

I don't run pushing my kids very often but have loved my double stroller by Charriot. They have swivel wheels or the front jogger wheel. You can buy all kinds of different attatchmnets. We have the swivel wheels and they have worked fine for running but like I said I don't do it very often. I think that if you were going to use it often the jogger wheel would be nice. The stroller has shocks so it is easy to push and a smooth ride for the kids. It is more money but we use it for so many things. We have the bike attatchmnet so we can pull it behind the bikes and you can even buy ski attatchements! Did I mention how much I love this stroller. If you are worried about having an infant in the stroller they make an attatchmnet to size it right for infants. They sell them at REI or you can order directly from their website. Good luck.

I would 100% not get one with a swivel wheel. I had the front wheel of my double that has a swivel fall off on me during a run a few weeks ago. Both my son and myself were pretty banged up because it turned the stoller into a pole vault. The quick release was faulty, but I can't help but reason that the lock design was part of the problem. If you are going to run 30+ miles a week with it, I would recommend getting a secure front wheel out of safety.

I live in Australia and they have the greatest double jogger prams here. Check out Phil & Ted's. The second seat can be removed and it inserts near the back. It's so much less awkward than the side by side joggers. I have a swivel wheel. It doesn't seem to matter much.

if you plan to do a lot of running/any training with your double jogger I would definitely go with the fixed wheel. We had the baby jogger q series single and loved that so when we had our second baby we sold that and bought the double baby jogger performance series, it is a big stroller and though it can be folded for travel, it is not a quick fold like the q series. But if you have a place to store it (we have a garage now but in our small 2 bedroom apartment we put it under the outside stairwell, locked it up and put a tarp over it) it is an awesome stroller. My husband pushed the kids in it up to 18 miles (!) while we were training for our first marathon. We love it! Not as many bells and whistles as the BOB (which is more expensive anyways!) but if you just want a good, solid running stroller, to use for that you will be pleased. I was able to get a years "1/2" model, as they called it for a closeout for around $300 on the internet, I can't remember the site. We got our first q series online at joggingstrollers.com which has free shipping.

good luck!

Thanks for sharing the link, but unfortunately it seems to be offline... Does anybody have a mirror or another source? Please reply to my post if you do!

I would appreciate if a staff member here at marathonmommies.blogspot.com could post it.

Thanks,
