pace leaders

Curiuos: Have you been a pace leader for a race?  What was your experience like?  Would you do it again?  How did you get involved?  What did you have to carry?  What group did you pace and what is your PR for that same distance? 
I think I need to change up my running a little and pacing is something I've always thought would be fun.  Runners are so inspiring and fun -- esp. those in the pace groups that I'd be pacing.  I've inquired for a local race coming up in a few months.  I haven't heard yet but would love to know what others have experienced being a pacer.
