Except already it feels like it's fading to the past. The thrill only lasts so long, and now, sure, I can say I have done it, but I am not feeling it. And it makes me a little sad. I am envious of you guys who have St. George ahead of you. Yay!!
I saw my "Marathon: the Ultimate Guide" as I unpacked and remarked to D (my hubby), "How sad--I'm not going to need my book again for awhile."
"Yep," he replied, "it looks like your love affair with Hal Higdon has come to an end." It's true. I really do love him and his wisdom. I also loved beginning 2/3 of my sentences with, "Hal says..."
So, I posted all the gory details (beware, it's very long) on my personal blog , graceimpaired.blogspot.com, complete with photos, so you can go there if you are interested.
In a nutshell, it was a beautiful marathon, seamlessly run (by the staff, not by me). The weather was ideal, the scenery was enchanting, and the volunteers and crowds were ultra friendly. The course was almost perfect, and I really didn't feel the altitude at all. It was all much, much better than I expected. I even feel great, relatively speaking. I came in around 4:12 (can't find official results online yet!) which was a pleasant surprise for me--quite a bit faster than my long runs have been since the injury. However, I do have one tip to share--it's something I, unfortunately, never heard or read. Here it is:
- while you are slathering your toes and your sports bra line with aquaphor (or vaseline), don't forget a little between your cheeks (and I don't mean the ones on your face). This tip may save you some extreme discomfort. I did an informal poll and the 2 people I talked to who ran today experienced the same problem, so I know it's not just me!! :)

Welcome to the club and CONGRATULATIONS!! There are few things as thrilling as completing your first marathon. Reading your experience brings back all those same similar feelings I experienced after my first one.
Excellent finish time, too!!
You are definitely official now! And, I will admit I am a little jealous of how smooth it went for you. (Except for the cheek pain of course!) Your time is so AWESOME!! I still am trying to get my time closer to 4 hours. Enjoy your rest and welcome. We hope you will post often.
Congratulations! I remember wanting to shout it from the rooftops, too! And you SHOULD! What an accomplishment. We are all so happy for you. And maybe little jealous that you have a great marathon memory to dwell on, while ours' lingers in our future making us nervous and anxious. :) You have officially earned your "marahon mommy" bumper sticker! If you want one, just email me your address. Does anyone else want one while I'm ordering them? Kelly and I already have ours. They look like the header at the top of the Marathon Mommy blog. They are customized for how many kids you have.

I commented on your other blog but I'll say it again here. THREE CHEERS FOR YOU!
And Suzie, I better get one of those bumper stickers before you guys catch on to the fact that although I've RUN a couple of marathons in the last couple of years, I have no intention of running another one in the near future. Are you gonna vote me out? ; )
My excitement keeps building up for mine next month. Reading this just made me THAT much more excited.
I'm not "official" yet, but I'm thinking about that bumper sticker.
Congratulations !! You have definitely earned your marathon mommy title. We will have to run one together in a few years.
Anna
JP-
Thanks for the comment at my blog. Are you running St. George next month or a different one?
I can't wait to hear everyone's reports!
polliwog - nope, not St. George. I'll be running the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco. Can't wait!!
Oh, wow, that sounds awesome! Good for you.
I lived in SF for 4 years (up on Twin Peaks) and my first child was born there. I LOVE that city. When is the run?
YEAH! Reading your experience not only gave me goose bumps and filled my eyes with tears! It also got me SO pumped for next month....the only bad thing is, after all of our runs together we didn't get to run the "big one" together! Maybe next time. Oh and btw...I just made my appointment for my massage for the 8th;-)
Hurry home.. I have to do 16 on Sat. Do you want to run with me:-)
me!
