Hello New Running Buddies........ I Need Help.

I am so happy to be a part of this blog! I have the full intention of writing a post to introduce myself, but first I need some help.

I am going to buy a Garmin Forerunner watch in the next few days and I want to be sure that I get the right one. I have been looking at the 205 model. What do you think?(I know at least a few of you have these watches.) I like this one because it is smaller than the 105 and has the docking device for charging it up as apposed to AAA/AA batteries that have to be recharged. Also, I guess it reads the satellites better when running under trees. I live in Western Washington folks, I'm always running by trees. Also, it is cheaper than the 305, but it doesn't have a heart rate monitor. I've never worried about my heart rate, but I know that several of you do, maybe I should too??? (This could be a post in and of itself.)

Anyway, am I fine with the 205 model?

I have the 205 and have used it for the past 18 months. I have no complaints and have never wished I had the 305. My running buddy has the 305, but rarely uses the heart monitor. When I was training for my marathon, I thought it would have been nice to have a heart monitor, but got through it just fine without. For me, it's not worth the money.

This post just makes me miss my 301. :-( Anyway, I obviously have LOVED my Garmin. I am a tech geek sometimes and I think it is very cool to see the elevation of the hills I run. I have heard the 205 and 305 are much better than the 201 and 301 as far as GPS goes. If you have not had any problems with your heart rate, breathing etc, I agree with Emily that it is not worth the money. I personally use the heart rate monitor, but I am a "special" case, more so than I would like to be, ha ha!! I will probably be asking for the 305 for Christmas. When my hubby bought the 301 for me 2 years ago, it made me so excited about running. I still hope it shows up one of these days...
Have fun, you will love it!! Can't wait to hear what you think.

So, in case you missed it, my recommendation for you is the 205. (My comment sounded confusing to me when I read it again.)

I've never run with a Garmin. But I know plenty of people who love theirs! (M&M!) My Nike+ gives me all the info I need (time, distance, music).

I love my Garmin. My husband gave me the 305 for Mother's Day, but I still haven't used the heart rate monitor. I think I would if I were seriously in training mode because this information interests me and really can only serve to improve my performance. I recall he got in on sale at REI so it was like paying the price for a 205 but getting the bells and whistles of the 305. Plus, you know, there's that fantastic REI rebate check we always look forward to receiving and spending...

Go for the 205. I have the 305 and have only used the heart monitor once! I thought I would use it a TON while training for my marathon but I only did once. Don't waste the money....get the 205.
