I am technically way behind schedule in my training. I knew I’d be on a “break” when we went on vacation. I, of course, couldn’t know that I’d immediately get so sick and be on a forced “break” for another few weeks. (Darn that bronchitis.) My runs aren’t what they were before getting sick. My times are a tad poopy. I’m squeezing in my run each night at about 8:30 or 9…at the gym…on the treadmill because that’s the only time I have with our crazy life.
Each night when I get home my husband asks me how things went. I can’t help but smile and say, “really good” because despite all that I listed above, and maybe because of all that I listed above, I’m proud of even the small accomplishments.
By golly, I’m enjoying myself. THAT is why I run.

What a great positive attitude! That was great to read. Sorry you have been sick. I hate that bronchitis. It always puts me out for so long.
*Big smile on my face*
I LOVE sentiments such as this one. You are truly an inspiration. Way to sum up the thoughts of a true runner. We run because we can, not because it's easy. (Because it's not!) Welcome back!
I feel your pain, literally. I was recently out sick for 10 days with a sinus infection and bronchitis. It's hard to get back into it when you feel so behind in training and so drained, but it's worth it, and you'll get back on track. I loved your post ... especially the title. It reminded me that even the 4 slow miles I did today was okay! Thanks for sharing!
A few days after I was struggling through my 5 mile runs, I was told I had pneumonia! Boy did I feel silly for trying to run hills in cold weather. The month of taking it easy was hard, but the runs after felt so much better. I got my fitness level back pretty quickly, and I'm running better than ever now. Let's hope our luck holds! Glad you're back in the game.
