Do any of you TRI?

So I had a moment of complete insanity this weekend... let me set the scene...

Saturday afternoon.... taking a break from the spring cleaning going on at our house at the computer..... check the email... oh yea I have a new email (I know the little things that get me excited are kind of silly... oh i hope it isn't an upset customer.... oh good it isn't it is from Active.com.... ooohhh maybe there is a new race.... hahahaha not so much a new race but something i would normally just delete but didn't!

A lovely coupon for $10 off the registration to the Dallas Iron Girl in July. Normally the thought process goes "I don't swim real well.... don't love to bike but I can.... and I all ready know I can run so no thanks just not my thing".... and this is where my mind started loosing the tug of war. I didn't delete it! Zip forward to Sunday afternoon and I have survived teaching primary which is a test unto itself.... and that email was still there and I clicked the link and registered.

So now my question to all of you amazing ladies is do or have any of you done a TRI? The Dallas Iron Girl is a sprint so I am sure I can survive it.... after all I can run 26.2 miles i should be able to swim 500 meters bike a 20K and run a 5K but I am looking for a good training program. Do any of you know of one or have one?

Erin,
I have done a sprint and LOVED it! It was invigorating for me. Just a good time with absolutely NO soreness afterwards! It is great because you work more muscles than just running all the time. I am actually considering one with my hubby in August. I want to do an Olympic sized one. I loved it. Hal Higdon has an eight week training plan that is great! There are some great books out there too. I am not a swimmer, but did it fine on my sprint and really made up time well in the bike and run. You never know if it is for you unless you try it!

I have, and loved it. I love running more than biking or swimming, so I don't do them often. I am signed up for the Iron Girl in August in Columbia, MD- bit I can't do it since I will be 38 weeks pregnant. I will do it next year though! If you do it you will have so much fun- it is a great experience and you have a new feeling after that is not sore but accomplished!

julia blog stalker here from "love to run" :) i think a triathlon is the BEST way to cross train for running! biking and swimming allow you to use muscles that you generally don't use while running - hence making you a super strong runner. i've done a few in california (see jane tri in napa valley) and absolutely loved it. great training for the fall marathon season. :)

I love the triathlon. When I get tired of swimming I bike. When I get tired of biking I run. It is a lot of fun. I'm hooked. I will be doing a sprint tri this saturday and I'm signed up for an olympic in Idaho in July. I'm trying to find a few more this summer to fill my race schedule. I'm even considering a half ironman.

There is a website that is great for tri advice and they have training plans you can use. They will try and sell one to you from a trainer but with a little savvy you can find there free plans. They also have a log that you can keep track of all of your workouts. It really is a great website and you get lots of free advice. Website is http://www.ontri.com/

I did a mini tri--I think the distances were half of the sprint. I LOVED it and would love to try another one sometime.
Good luck!

I have done 3 sprint triathlons and LOVE them. I too, like foxontherun, am doing another this Saturday. My goal is to move up to the Olympic ones. I love training for them because I don't get bored--I am constantly doing something different. I have noticed too since I started doing them that I have lost a couple of inches in my waist and toned up my arms/legs that I wasn't getting from running alone. The hardest part for me is going from biking to running because they are just so different but after the first little while of your legs feeling like jello you are good to go. So when I train for them I try to include a lot of transition trainings (swimming and then biking or biking and them swimming). Of course I haven't really been doing that for my triathlon on Saturday so we'll see how that goes!

Hey foxontherun, are you doing the Spudman? This is so close to where I live...I would love to cheer for you. I have several friends who got in this year so I will try and be there to support them. It all depends on the baby. I have heard this is a great one (good down current for the swim).
