This Box of Dots (snack size) almost won last night.
Put updates here for the 'no junk food before marathon day' challenge.

Right after Christmas I did a no-sugar detox. I did it for two whole weeks and it wasn't too bad. But I did have to get all the junk food I love (ice cream and chocolate) out of the house. My family revolted against me, so I gave up after the two weeks. I have been pretty good about not over-indulging since then, so maybe the two weeks did something! Good luck to all of you. I may join in closer to my marathon.

I had a jelly bean yesterday-completely forgot about the challenge. :-) Still going strong otherwise!

Chelle, I am laughing so hard right now. DOTS??? Ick. If you're going to crash (and I am sure you won't!), crash and BURN.

Last year I was off refined sugar for 9 months. Ironically it was about 6 weeks before the marathon that I fell off the wagon. I think I felt like I was running so much that it wouldn't matter. It didn't--until my recovery weeks and post marathon. Oops.

So I think you guys are smart. And good work! I am mustering my will power to do it again soon. :)

M&M-jellybean, shmellybean.

Ok, ok, ok. My son's birthday is over. The cake I made was actually not as good as I was hoping. I'm ready to join you... mostly. I'll do a major cut-back in sugar intake. I can't promise 100%.

How LAME am I?? Better than nothing though, right?

And I'm with polliwog... Dots are an anti-sugar temptation! Give me hot fudge and ice cream!!

The Dots are a representation of how DESPERATE things have gotten. They really are gross and get stuck in my teeth. Can you believe that? I almost let Dots win!

Things must be really bad if the Dots almost won.

All In know is I lasted about 36 hours. Which is about 35 1/2 more than I thought I would!

So I'm with SuziePetunia, I'm on a MAJOR sugar reduction right now.....hopefully a total sugar reduction. We'll see. :)

M&M and Chelle, you are my heroes!!

I just did a google search of "refined sugar.." Technically it's in all the sauces and dips...you know, ketchup, ranch ? I'm hosting an open house tonight for a friend that is moving..the theme..."pies and goodbyes.." Wish me luck!

And really, if we are cutting out refined sugar until our marathons, I have until the end of JUNE...shoot me now....

Personally I love Dots!

To clarify (not that it matters much) I did NOT go off refined sugar as google defines it. :) I eliminated treats, all juice and jams and tried to pick lower sugared cereals and yogurts. I was constantly looking for sweet things to cook for dinner to get my "allowed" sugar fix. (Sweet and sour meatballs, for instance.)

By the way, the first 2 weeks are definitely the hardest. Beyond that it is just a part of life.

But I think I overcompensated this year for the Easter candy I missed last April. :)

I've made it for about 6 hours. Do I get a prize?

Today m&m (your name is killing me right now) e-mailed me and asked me how I was feeling about the race. My answer was something like this "What race? I'm just trying to keep myself from eating Tootsie Rolls this afternoon" By the way, I cleared all the "good" candy out of the house. All that's left are Dots and Tootsie Rolls.

And, to be clear, I am not cutting out all sauces, etc. etc. My definition is along the lines of no candy, ice cream, dessert, syrups, sugary snackity stuff. Basically anything that tastes good. ha ha. : )

p.s. I ate some prunes today. What in the world is happening to me?!? aaaahhhh!!!

Seriously glad to know it's not sauces and dips...just the basic junk food THANK YOU HEAVEN!!!!

Also glad to know that the first 2 weeks are really bad and it gets better! Looking forward to that!

I am so proud of all you who are putting in the effort! I am a big believer in how great you feel off of "sugar." I am doing pretty good. I had a scentsy party last night so I served fruit. I figure...I only have one week until the 1/2 marathon--I know I can do it!
