Well I made my goal for the week. 3 runs! I feel so great that I actually did it. My final run for the week was actually without my kids.. so that was nice. I was going to go out again this weekend but my daughter got sick. So I will try again next week.
I bought these shoes (well similar only the older model)
I am not happy with them. They squeeze my heel when I run. I have had them now a year and a half.. I want to buy a new pair but I don't know what is best. I know everyone says that all running shoes aren't created equal so any advice on really great running shoes? What is your favorite pair of running shoes or what do y'all where?
Thanks

My advice on running shoes... Find a good running store in your area, take in your old pair of running shoes so they can examine the wear, and plan on spending about $100. You're right. Running shoes are not all the same. A poor fit can lead to all kinds of injuries in a hurry, so you need a professional to fit you. (NOT Foot Locker type stores, but a real running store. I live in Phoenix and Craig at Runner's Den is my shoe guy.) A professional will feel your foot in the shoe and will watch you run in them. A professional will take time to talk to you about your running and will examine your old pair. Be sure to replace your running shoes every 300 miles. I use a Sharpie to note the purchase date on my shoes so I know when to replace them. I also can tell them apart from the old ones in the closet if they are all dated. Lastly, I do not recommend buying shoes online. Even the same make and model can have slight variations. I get mine fit each and every time even though I always buy the same kind.
Good luck!
I second that. A real running store makes all the difference. Also, each persons foot is different and each brand is different. So once you find a brand that you love, you'll be pretty safe to stick with it. I love Asics. I have a friend who hates them and loves Saucony.
I have a serious pronation problem, so I have to spend $120+ on shoes all the time. If you have normal pronation, then you'll be lucky and won't have to spend as much.
I buy my shoes online. Since they are so expensive, when roadrunners.com has a sale I buy three pairs at a time. I haven't had any problems with them. I love the asics kayano series.
I also go to a running/shoe store and they do a great job finding the right shoe that fits well. I wear Saucony - They've been great :)
Way to make your goal! That is one of my favorite parts of running- accomplishing personal goals. You are doing great!
For shoes- I agree completely with auntfun! Good luck!! Let us know what you decide on.
In addition to the other advice, I'll add my tips. I run in the Brooks Addiction, which were recommended to me after I had a fitting at a running specialty store. I buy them from roadrunners.com. I lace them differently to keep my heel in place better -- I think Brooks has the suggestion in their shoe box -- and it really works.
My other piece of advice is to use a site like runningahead.com to track the miles on your shoes. I used to track my runs in Coolrunning but they were sold to active.com :-( so I switched to runningahead.com and love it!
Great job on reaching your goal! That is wonderful!
Definitely follow the advice already given to have a professional check out your feet, how you run, the wear pattern on your current shoe.
I just started wearing the Nike Vomero and love it. Its a neutral shoe with lots of cushioning... just what I need.
As you can see from everyone's comments, different people need vastly different shoes. I happen to love New Balance, so I generally buy various models. I wanted to add one more thing in about the local specialty running store. Sometimes these stores seem intimidating because they're full of "real" runners. But just find one with friendly people, explain what you need (or think you need), and learn from all of their expertise. The other great thing about these stores is that they generally are better about returns and helping you find the right shoe, even if it takes a few tries. My local store has a 30 day return policy, and they'll even take them back muddy and used. They want you to be happy. My only complaint is they always try to get me to buy HUGE shoes and give me a hard time when I refuse. I will only go up one size because I don't like floppy shoes.
Getting new shoes is so much fun! Everyone is right, you need to find a shoe that fits your foot and running style.
I am a Saucony girl!
I love my Mizuno Wave Inspire running shoes. I've been running in them (or the older version Wave Mercury) since I started running in 2003. Every year or two, I go into the running store and have them give me other neutral shoes to try running , but I always end up buying my same shoes. I figure why fix something that isn't broke.
Once you find ones you like, buy a couple of extra pair of them if you can find them on sale somewhere. That way, when they change the shoe a little bit, you're not out of luck!
Nice design!! I always appreciates to Nike for their innovative designs. I have 2 pair of Nike shox sneaker.
I've been looking into getting new running shoes myself and apparently nike air max shoes are good running shoes along with being basketball shoes.
I only buy NIKE or Saucony and I find that the lower end models are some of the best for me. I have learned that to be loyal to certain brands because of having problems w/ other brands and it has really paid off for me!
I have to agree with everyone else. I was super-intimidated to visit our local running shoe store (I wrote a whole blog entry about my experience last week), but it was the best thing I ever did for my running. I have no more shin pain, and I love my ugly New Balance 882's :)
Hi, I know I am not officially a member of this site but I couldn't help but comment on this question. I used to always wear Nike, for many years, and then tried Adidas and Asics. While wearing those brands, I never improved my running and actually I had problems like plantar fascitis, among other things. When I tried Mizuno's I was re-born! They fit my feet so well and I went up a size, quite reluctantly, but I am so glad b/c all my woes are gone. Everyone's feet are different so the search is hard- but on Runner's World they have a shoe finder that is pretty helpful. Fleet Feet is pretty good too if you have one nearby. Good luck!
