Bummer

Hi-I wanted to introduce myself first. My name is Cari and I recently joined Marathon Mommies. I have been reading the blog for a while and decided I would like to be a part of it--since I'm a little bit of a blogaholic anyway! I have done several 5k's and have run short distances for several years. I decided to start training in April for my first 1/2 marathon at the end of June. This leads me to the bummer part.....I live in Iowa where the flooding is pretty bad. Our 1/2 marathon was scheduled through a state park on the trails. I'm not sure all of the details but somehow the race had to be changed to a 10-mile run instead of a 1/2. This will still be the longest race I've ever run in but it is still a bummer to train for a 1/2 for 12 weeks and then 2 weeks before find out I won't get to actually finish it. Of course there is a small part of me saying hmmmmm 10 does sound better than 13.1! :) And of course I am lucky in that this is the only way I've personally been affected by the floods. It just stinks when you set a goal and then you have no possibility of reaching it due to circumstances out of your control. Anyway, thanks for letting me be part of your blog!!

That is a bummer but, like you said, if it is the only way you've been affected by the floods, then it is good. Those floods seem so horrible and my heart goes out to everyone in that region.

Good luck with the 10 mile race! It is still really long and a great accomplishment! And, just think, the 10 mile race will be good practice for your eventual half!

Sorry about the let down. I hope things get better with all the flood problems, it looks like a awful thing to deal with. 10 is great and it will just make your half even better. Enjoy the moment and good luck!

Hey, just want to say sorry about the shorter race, that stinks to train for something and then have circumstances beyond your control alter the plan.

We here on the East Coast have been watching Iowa with sorrow and empathy. So sorry your state is under so much water, and I hope you and your loved ones are ok.
