Seriously Asking

Hello friends! My, how this blog has grown -- it's amazing! I feel like the old granny that says in her craggly granny voice (use your imagination) "I remember when it was just SuzieP, Kelly, Cherl and I, back in the day...." ha ha. I also feel like the old granny because this blog moves so darn fast I can hardly keep track! It is inspiring and wonderful to see all of the strong, amazing, motivated women that share a passion for running.

So, here is my quick update:

What I've been up to lately: TRAIL RUNNING! Oh my! It is my new running passion. I feel like a trail running junkie. I can't get up on the trails enough. If you live in the Salt Lake valley and trail run... let me know where you run. I am in love!

Okay, on to the title of this post... here's the serious question I would like to pose:

If we were to put together a Marathon Mommy Wasatch Back team for next year... who would want to take part? It's true, there is much that can happen in a year (like pregnancy) but still:

If we built it (a Wasatch Back team, I mean).... would you come?

Go to their website http://www.ragnarrelay.com/wasatchback/index.php, get excited and inspired.

I would be willing to be the team captain and organize it, with the commitment from the mommies that they would pay their running fees and find a runner to replace them if something happened and they weren't able to run their spot.

You don't want to miss out on this experience, trust me.

Here is my race report from last year:
http://itsawonderfulwonderfulworld.blogspot.com/2007/06/im-wasatch-back.html

The Wasatch Back leaves you feeling funny, inspired, crazy, sweaty, tired, happy, stinky, delirious, emotional, exhausted and exhilarated.
Guaranteed.

Early registration goes until January 31st, 2009. Regular registration ends April 15, 2009. I think we'd want to go for the early registration and save a few bucks. So we'd collect the money in January.

Are you interested?
(you know you are)

I am interested- VERY! I assume you pay the money when you register, right? That would be the only thing stopping me right now- I just registered for two fall races so my race fund is spent but I can budget it in etc for like next month. I can't believe so many teams have already registered for next year- wow. So count me as a yes and lets see who else is on board!

I don't think I'm an official Marathon Mommy (because I've been too lazy to properly introduce myself), but if you all would have me, I'd love to do this race with you! It's been out there for several years now just taunting me... daring me to do it. I've just never known 11 other runners crazy enough to join in.

So, if your team doesn't fill up with official MM's, give me a holler!

Chelle, Chelle! You know I love hearing from you! And, I really mean it when I say I am in. It sounds like a beautiful race and I would love to do it with the other mommies. Now, the trail running, I can't get on board with that just yet. :-)

Angie- I sent you an invite. I have stalked your blog for a while. Please join us!

I have never run it but the Dog Lake Trail at the top of Millcreek Canyon is the most beautiful bike trail I've ever ridden. The trail is well maintained and I'm sure you could run it...if you like hills.

I think it would be a wonderful oppurtunity to get a group of Marathon Mommies together. I would love to do it!

I need to look up more info because I might have another baby by then, so it might not be good timing for me. Time will tell :)

I am team captain for my team, so I won't be able to run with you Mommies. I will definitely keep my eye out for you at the race though!! Sounds like a fun group. I'm a little jealous. ;)

I am so in! I was asked to run it this year and could not because I am pregnant and due right now. So I know I won't be having a baby next year at that time. I have heard so many great things about the race and was bummed that I couldn't do it this year. Count me in for sure!

I would LOVE it! What a great opportunity and I think this is the only group I personally know of (since I don't live in UT) that I'd ever get the chance to do this with. Count me in!

We're getting there. We've got maybe seven so far. I'll just throw it out here again in a while and then get serious about collecting money in January. Oh we are gonna have FUN!

I am totally in! The only problem would be if I am pregnant then. Otherwise I am all for it!

Chelle,
Right now we're deciding on whether or not we are going to put together a family team. If not, I'm totally in with the mommies!!
Also, the race may fill up faster than Jan. so you might want to keep an eye on the total number of teams registered. I just checked and there are 204 teams registered and I think they take around 550. So fun!!

I would totally love to, but with a husband in Grad school, it puts a damper on an 800 dollar ticket....but, in 2010 (I know that seems like forever,) I'm all for it

Good luck getting a team together, wish I could be there.

Wow -- just went to the race web site and it looks like a ton of fun! I wish I lived closer because I would be up for this. Alas, I'm in upstate NY and don't think I could swing it. I'll be sending lots of positive vibes to the team, though!

I am a little nervous about committing to something a whole year away, but like Roxanne I KNOW I won't be pregnant (knock on wood there) since that's what's put me out this year. I'm in Cali, but my whole family is in Utah, so I'm thinking that I should be able to swing it, even if hubby can't come. So put me on your list. Yikes, it's too exciting!

I want a spot on the team! I am totally in! I won't be pregnant... I can promise you that!

YEE HAW! I think if I am counting correctly then we are up to 11 tentative yes's! Woo hoo. Who else is gonna step up the plate? Can't wait to see...

I'm not sure if you realize it, Chelle...but you are twisting my arm. Another chance to hang out with you??? I'm in!! :) I have to figure out some logistics, but I would LOVE to.

(Also...I haven't quite figured out what makes you so good at this...but we are like your puppets. First SLC Marathon now this!)

JP said...

Also...is there a way I can avoid the "very hard" legs of the relay??? LOL

Holy crap.

Chelle said...

WOO HOO!!

JP: this is my take: Birds of a feather flock together and we just happen to have a large quantity of really cool birds that visit this blog. It's my job to help us flock together! : )

And Here's the thing that will be different about this race versus the S.L. Marathon: the marathon race was really tricky to have everyone bond and have a group experience on race day because our paces and distances were all over the map. The Wasatch Back is just a huge chic bonding experience. You are crammed in a car together, sleeping on the side of the road, cheering each other on... it freakin' rocks. I am so excited that our lil team is coming together.

I think we will need our own little off-shoot "Marathon Mommy Wasatch Back Style" blog to keep track of each other.

What do you think, team mates? : )

I'm so excited too - I'm up for anything and everything to learn more about what I just got myself into!

Okay you gals, I want to be on your team and my team. So I will be on my team and we will have to honk and cheer for each other REAL loud when we see each other's van! Go marathon mommies!

Polliwog said...

Oh, yeah. Definitely another blog--can one really be a part of too many? :)

Did we get enough takers? This will be exciting! And hey, I need some motivation to get myself going again.

Only 4 weeks (at most) until I have this baby. I can almost taste the running again (can you tell I've missed it?!)

Ladies: with some help from Sarah and Kelly (to get it set up-- I'm clueless on how to add a bunch of peeps to a blog) I will make a "Wasatch Back, Marathon Mommy Style" Blog for our crew.

But first I'm gonna go to the beach with my family for a week's vacash before I do it. So... be patient and stay tuned!

Here are a couple of preliminary questions I have for you all to think about: We need two big vehicles. I have a mini van (yeah, baby) that we can use. Anyone else? That would be an important piece to the puzzle.

p.s. I am very, very, very excited about this!

: )
