Great Job, Mom, Great Job!

My kids got up early enough to go run outside in the Southern AZ heat. It was still like 85 degrees, at 7 A.M. As I was running, while pushing the double jogger, a lady on a bike passed me and yelled out, "Great Job, Mom, Great Job!" Little does she know how I needed those words. I think about the many races I have run in the past, and how I pass so many strangers on the sidelines, cheering for their family and friends. On occasion, strangers will cheer for me too- yelling out my number, or the color of my shirt, or simply just clapping for me as I pass by. Such people have no idea how a simple thing helps in so many ways- when sometimes you feel like you just want to quit running or maybe give up - those simple cheers, help you to carry on and finish the race. I'm sure many of us have experienced the same thing. So I just wanted to CHEER ON all the moms out there- no matter what race you may be running - whether you are training for a marathon, or a 5K, whether you are running everyday or just when you have the time, or if you stay busy chasing the little ones around all day....to you I say, "Great Job, Mom, Great Job!" Whatever you are doing, or however your running is going or not going, you are all an inspiration to me, and have inspired me to get back in running shape! Thanks, and great job:)

I needed that extra boost too! What part of Southern AZ? I live in Phoenix and was in Southern AZ this last weekend and will be there again this weekend for a triathlon.

That's great! I once had an old man walking down the opposite side of the road with his walker call out to me, "Good job, keep it up!" while I was jogging with the double. It's amazing what a few encouraging words will do.

I can totally relate! The power of a few encouraging words is amazing.

Sadly, as a mom, we ususally don't get many.

Once when I was running along, another runner passed me by, looked into my sweaty face and asked: 'You allright?'
I nodded, lost for breath and words.
Then he said encouragingly: 'Just keep going, eh?!'

And those words really gave me new energy!

So great job, you!

I love it when a stranger gives that boost! I pass other mom's pushing joggers sometimes and we always comment on how crazy we are and to just keep going. The best one ever was a woman we crossed who slowed down a little and said, "You are a warrior woman! Keep it up!"

Because of this, I always give a little honk and wave or roll down my window and say good work! if I am passing someone. It feels good on both ends.

You're so right! I was riding my bike earlier this week with both kids in the bike trailer. It's hilly where we live and we were very slowly making our way up the hill when I woman passing us (she was walking) yelled out words of encouragement. I suddenly felt like Wonder Woman. :)
