Trying to start a mommies running group

I am trying to get a mommies running group off the ground. I know there are many mommies out there that want to be fit and just need some support. I'm no running guru, but I can show up and run (just don't make me talk while I'm doing it!)

For those of you who have done this, tips? suggestions? just get out there and do it right?

One of my friends just started a mommies running group. She used the site Meetup.com to launch the group, which offers a search feature to find groups in your area. We had our first run through the group on Monday and met some really great mom's in our area who were interested in getting started running. I would recommend using the meetup site.

I agree with your comment of just get out there and do it :) I run with a group early in the morning and it is soooo worth it! I would not wake up early if i had to run solo. It is nice to have others to have a fun run with!!

I would also take a flyer down to your local running store. Ours has a board you can post notices on. Might be worth a try eh?

My running group started with a group of women who all attend the same group. We started slow and tried to pick a time that worked for all of us. If you are a part of some other sort of community (book club, play group, church) you might start by seeing if anyone else is interested in running.

Do you have a local gym or YMCA where you could post a sign? That is what works for our group. We meet at the YMCA, that way if no one shows up, you can still work out at the Y! Keep talking to people. Maybe a friend of a friend will know a runner! One of my running partner's husbands overheard me talking about training for a marathon and "set me up" with his wife! Good luck and keep us posted!
