Hobble Creek Half

I just wanted to post about last weekend's race, the Hobble Creek Half Marathon. It was fabulous! I love that course! Anyone who lives in the SLC area really must put this on their To Do list, but you must register early- it fills up quick. We started bright and early in the morning, alarm was set for 4 am! We boarded the buses between 5:15 and 5:45 am. Luckily, our bus got lost on the way up (yes, seriously) and so we got to avoid standing in the cold for an extra 1/2 hour. By the time we arrived at the top, we only had 30 minutes to go. Me (center photo) and my two friends, Kami (Right) and Heather (Left), have been training for months so we were very excited to get going! Anyway, the views were just gorgeous! It's a subtle downhill slope the whole way so it's excellent for setting a PR, but not too hard on the knees. We ran down the canyon on a narrow road for about 1/2 of the way. It almost felt like you were on a mountain trail b/c you are just surrounded by trees and rocks, etc. I loved it. Finally we emerged from the canyon, and there was a gorgeous golf course and mountains all around us. Only the last few miles are really on the 'road' with houses around you. And even though I have had an annoying sinus infection bringing me down, I felt awesome this day, and Heather and I finished in 1:58 (not a PR) but happy with that considering I was blowing my nose every other mile. Kami finished just 5 minutes behind us. She is such an inspiration- the only other race she has done is a 5K and that was just 2 months ago. I am so thankful for my friends b/c they have kept me running through this silly sinus/allergy stuff and are so much fun to run with. Love the feeling of euphoria when you cross that finish line! It's the best.

Congrats! That is so funny because I was on your bus. :) I wasn't complaining either with it being so cold. I think I might have seen you but I would have had no way of knowing you were a marathon mommy. I finished at 2:04 so I was right near your friend. I loved Hobble Creek and I thought it was well organized. Definitely a race I'd love to do again.

Congratulations on a great race! Hobble Creek is my absolute favorite half marathon.

I've run it three times and have PR'ed each time! That's probably why I love it so much...

It's such a great course with beautiful scenery. Because of the early start, it's usually not too hot until the last mile or so.

I didn't run it this year, but had some friends who did and loved it as well.
