Weight Loss Mommies Check-In Sept 15-21st

I am loving all these introductions! Welcome to Marathon Mommies. This post is the support post for all of us still trying to get rid of "baby weight" no matter how old that baby is. :-) Or, if you are just trying to live healthier.

How are your goals?

My week went pretty well, but the last few days have been tough without treats. I need some new ideas. Help me out here! I am down 4 pounds total so I hope that keeps me going. I am hoping the premiere of Biggest Loser will motivate me and give me new healthy eating ideas! What has worked for the rest of you?

I have gone 12 days with no sugar- no candy, no cake, no cookies, nada! I have definitely had more energy, but I have been a little more cranky! (Ask Sarah or my hubby!) I started a Boot Camp at the YMCA this morning and it was awesome having someone else push me. I am sure I am going to be sore tomorrow.

So, how is everyone else doing?

um...eating has been SO much better - except on the weekends (I STINK!) and I'm still "only" running. I'm a little (a lot) short on time lately, so I give priority to the running. :)

SO...not good...but not bad either.

I'm proud of you, Kel!!!

here is a good treat- if you like soda- diet rootbeer and 1/2 cup light vanilla ice cream- it is like a little over 100 calories and can kill that craving. Another one if you have Trader Joe's- is the NO PUDGE (brand name) brownies.I don't know where else you can buy them-but you can make one in the microwave w/ some vanilla yogurt- if you love chocolate-that is a good sweet treat too. good luck!

as someone who can't handle completely abstaining from anything bad for me, i have learned that i need to use moderation. so that means that yes, we have cookies in the house, but as soon as they're baked, we bag them into individual servings (usually of about three cookies per bag). i'm less likely to eat nine cookies if it means getting three bags. but if not bagged, i could probably down a dozen---easy!

Wow, good job, Kelli! I kept my goal of no sweets after 8:30pm except for one night. I actually did really well and ate a lot more fruits and vegetables. It was pretty funny to race the clock, though. I might have finished a treat at 8:33 one night. Oops! And I didn't have any treats at all 2 days.

Thanks for the kudos, JP. You are doing great.
Sharla- thanks for the treats tips.
Erinmalia- I am doing this 30 day experiment, and my hope is that it will teach me that I can have sugar in moderation. Your bagging cookies tip will be great at the end of this!

I did pretty good last week. I did eat 5 potty-treat pumpkins and 3 cookies last night. I let myself get too hungry. My snacks have all included a protein which is how I kept my bloodsugar in check while pregnant. This week some of my snacks will be: fresh peaches with cottage cheese, apple slices with 1 Tbs. of peanut butter, blackberries and string cheese. Also, Kashi has some great cereals with protein and fiber that are delish. The honey almond flax with some milk is a good snack when you need something sweet. Not eating after 8 has gone really well. Keep up the good work, I will do better this week. I can't wait for the biggest looser!

Amy- I definitely need to eat more fruits and veggies. Good job on sticking to your 8:30 goal! I am excited to meet you next week. :-)

Gina- I am a HUGE Biggest Loser fan. That is one of the things that got me going. I wanted to be in better habits before it even started, ha ha!

I LOVE your snack ideas. I was so happy when I discovered the Kashi cereal. I just had plain yogurt topped with the Honey Almond Flax. :-)

Keep the ideas coming! You guys are awesome!

OK so I am loving this weight loss check in thing- and thought of more stuff while reading comments-thanks everyone...since I can't limit myself to no sugar- here are some more things I thought of that I do- I always substitute applesauce for the fat in recipes. You can also 1/2 the fat and applesauce the rest- and it still tastes yummy- either way you do it. Another treat for fall- a yellow or spice cake mix, a 15 oz. can of pumpkin, and mini or regular choc. chips- mix it up, put on sprayed cookie sheet by spoonfuls, and bake for like 8-10 min. at 350 and you have no-fat- yummy-pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. We also do the thing w/ baggies- after baking any muffins or cookies- I put them in baggies in the BACK of the freezer- and that way- it really makes me think about what I'm putting in my mouth- because it takes time to get it out. AND....I can hardly wait for the BIGGEST LOSER TOO!!! I plan to run 3 miles on the treadmill while watching- if I get lazy - I'll do some pilates or weights!! Talk about motivation- how could anyone watch that show and not want to get in shape! thanks for all the wonderful comments- keep 'em coming!

i certainly didn't mean to disrespect your 30 day plan. in fact, i totally admire it. but i thought for those of us (maybe only me) who could never completely give up sugar and for when your 30 days are over, i'd share something we do. in fact, we do this with all our snacks. my poor husband's lunch contains an embarrassing number of little baggies!

good luck with the rest of the 30 days!

*sigh* did great until Sunday, where I made texas sheet cake for choir...I justified the whole deal with hurricane ike. Can you believe how lame that is?!

Other than that, minor sunday setback...doing great...had cream of wheat with fresh blueberries and thought of all the MM from Oregon.

Everyone is doing great! Charity, fresh blueberries is what kept me going this weekend. :-)
So, I need help again. We have our annual beach trip this weekend and it is known for licorice, candy, treats, you name it. I definitely want to enjoy myself and not be stressed. I am going to keep my no sugar thing going, but I will buy those pita chips from Costco w/hummus. What other ideas do you have for little snacks? I was thinking of picking up those sugar free candies. Anyone else know of good snacks? I think I will try to hit Trader Joe's for the brownies.
Thanks for all the ideas!!

Great week! Lost more than I thought I was going to and have been doing well with my diet changes. Am working on finding more Indian food recipes (curries, etc) to help incorporate more coconut oil/milk consumption. Have had luck on allrecipes.com and getting advice from family.

So far, so good!

Oh, and I LOVE Biggest Loser too. I went on a longer run this morning, taking advantage of the extra motivation.

Not that any of you need another blog to keep up with but I love the blog at Sisterskinny.com. It is no longer active but they have great snack ideas and are quite humorous/motivational too.
