Adding Swimming as Cross Training

In addition to my running races this year, I just registered for my first sprint triathalon! I'm very excited but a little overwhelmed with where to start and how to add swimming to the mix. I have been told it's excellent cross training, which will come in handy for the Marine Corps marathon I plan on running again this year. Anyone out there swim in addition to running? I would love some tips and any advice! Thanks!

my strokes are awful, but this summer I would love to hire someone to help me condition for my fall marathon through swimming!!

I was injured training for Boston last year. I did a lot of training in the pool both running in the water and lap swimming. It was excellent cross training. I would recommend it to anyone. I love doing triathlons. Good luck!

Hi Frannie,

I did my first sprint tri last year after I finished my marathon. I thought it was a fantastic way to get a workout and a nice change. I followed Hal Higdon's triathlon training. Let us know how it goes and good luck. It was fun!

I just added swimming as well. I'm confident in the water but have signed up for lessons to tweak my technique. Definitely worth the time and effort.

I just signed up for my first tri, too, and started swimming next week. It was tough! I can tell swimming can really help get you into shape, I'm excited to train more in the pool.
