I survived!

Last Sunday, I ran- and finished- the Cascade Half Marathon. It was my first half. Heck it was my first race longer than a 3K unless you count Hood to Coast! It was great. I am completely hooked. I want to do another and shave my time. My kids (12 and 9) ran the 10K.

My training for this race couldn't have been any more derailed. Between injuries, poison oak, snow and ice, and a trip to Mexico, I only got two long runs in (one 9 miler and one 11 miler) before the race. My apologies (and great respect) to you Marathon Mommies that run in the snow, but in Oregon, when it snows we pretty much hole up. The streets don't get plowed, the schools don't get opened and the running shoes don't get laced up. When we left for 10 days in Mexico right after Christmas, I was pumped, planning to run every day. I did, but in the humidity, I didn't log the miles I wanted or needed. We got home four days before the race. I went to run at my favorite park and it was so flooded (another consequence of the snow) that I could only get 3 miles in before having to turn back. But it was three miles of pure joy. I never thought I would be so excited to run in cold, wet weather. I can't wait to start training for the next one!

COngrats on your race!!!! It is easy to get hooked :) I love in WI and know what you mean about the snow. However, it can be some of the best running :) Keep up the good work and best of luck in future runs. Also, I think it is great that your kids run too!

Congrats on your race!! I heard that is a great half marathon, so you picked a good one for your first. That is a bummer about the weather. I agree that my running went south those couple of weeks of snow. I am impressed you were able to do your race. Great job and thanks for sharing with us!!

That is fantastic! Finishing a race no matter the distance (for me anyway) is one of THE most gratifying feelings. It really is addicting! Good Job!!!

Way to go! I love 1/2 marathons too. It's what made me a running addict. I hope you have much better luck with your training in the future and best of luck on your next 1/2!!

As a mother trying to raise runners- my oldest is 8 yrs old, he's done four 5K's so far- I am so impressed with your children running a 10K!! Good for them!
