Broken toe!
Hey all you running guru's...has anyone continued running with a broken toe? The dresser jumped out at me yesterday while I was walking by. I missed my 13 mile key run and am three weeks out from a half-marathon! I am good to run through pain but I don't know if it will further the problem or slow down the healing. Any idea's?

I broke my toe a few years ago (SAME THING! It was my dresser! Jumped out and snapped my little toe!) and the doctor told me to totally stay off of it for at least a week, then I could only walk in a walking cast (the hard boot/shoe thing) for six weeks. It sounds SO painful to run on! And I think it would prevent your toe from starting to heal until after you stopped running. I'm so sorry! I hope it heals quick!
I broke my baby toe 2 months ago. I didn't quit running on it and finished a half last weekend. During my training I noticed it felt as though it would swell up and start throbbing! I took IB and kept running lightly on it. But it shouldn't still be hurting. I also know that I totally could have broken it worse. So, i would definately take a week or so and then ease back on it.
When I broke my 3rd toe (I had an xray because it looked really bad- but it wasn't too bad), the doctor told me not to run for 6 weeks... when I laughed out loud, he told me it would be pretty stupid to have surgery on a toe, right? I didn't run on it. It sucked!
Ouch! I've never had a broken toe, but it sounds like you should follow your doctors advice and stay off of it. It's your turn to take it easy.

It's Friday, May 29, and I'm in my third week of healing a broken toe. The break was just below the digit/above the metatarsal joint, and broke cleanly through (as opposed to a "stick-fracture" that doesn't crack all the way.)
I have invested $130 in a triathlon that will take place in three weeks - one where I'm ready for the swim and ride, but am no where near the miles for the run, especially with this broken bone.
I have had foot surgery before however, and I have to say, in the past when I was good and let a broken bone heal for 6 weeks, nothing around the injury every bothered me again.
So while I'm lamenting (BIG TIME) that more likely than not, I'm going to have to drop from the tri after the bike, bones are bones. They break, they need to mend at their rate, not ours.
Now I'm curious...did you do the half? I just broke my toe yesterday with my last marathon of the season 9 days away...

I am on the fence about running the marathon, after investing 5.5 work weeks of running Im not ready to throw in the towel. Just found this site...I am glad to see others are in the same boat as I am. Broke my 3rd toe 2 weeks ago and want to do the Peachtree Road Race (only 10k) next week. I need to start training for marathon next month. The doctor told me not to run on it for at least 4 weeks. I have already run on it- quite painful I must say.
Wow,I broke my toe two weeks ago, went out this morning for a trial run finally! It was ok,the problem isn't the running it's more the shoe up against the toe that's broke. I just loosened the shoe laces a little more on that shoe. I noticed after warming up the toe felt ok,blood flow to that area is a good thing. I got new vibrams,those unfortunately are a no-go for now! Running in my Nike Free's for now.
I just broke my big toe and I am currently in a half training program and have a 10k on July 4th which is tomorrow! I see most of you think it's a bad idea to run but it's hard not too! I'm still undecided if I go ahead and run I'll post my experience...glad I'm not the only one :)
