You Snooze You Lose.... And I Lose!!

I am soooooo upset! I had my heart 100% set on running the Seattle Rock n Roll Marathon. I got on the website last night only to find that it is sold out!! WHAT???!! I can't even begin to tell you the disappointment this brings. It was suppose to be my 30 birthday celebration. Ugghh.

I'm sooo sorry! Last year I ran a marathon to celebrate my 30th birthday. Deseret News is the day after my birthday. I pinned a note on my back saying I was running it for my birthday and I laughed (as best I could) when all the volunteers at one of the later aid stations sang to me.

I hope you can find an equally fulfilling way to celebrate a great birthday.

Darn! I hate when that happens! Is there another race you can run instead?

Make you could contact them and get on some kind of wait list?

It doesn't hurt to try.

It is unfortunate that the registrations are non-transferable. I'm okay with the "non-refundable" part, but not everyone can make it on race day for a variety of good reasons, and I think the organizers ought to allow transfers. I was registered to run the Teton DAM Half Marathon last spring in Rexburg, ID, but I changed plans due to a pregnancy. I was able to easily transfer the registration to someone else. I was also supposed to run the Windermere Marathon in Spokane this May, but due to some training issues, I decided to switch it to a half marathon -- they changed my registration without any additional charge. The smaller marathons seem to be much more accommodating.

Really? I thought it was going to be a big one... how many runners do they have?

What about flying down and doing the San Diego Rock N Roll? It is beautiful down here and it is a fun race. It is only a week or two before Seattle on May 31.

Argh!!! So sorry to hear this. I was equally disappointed when I waited too long to register for the La Jolla Half Marathon last month. It's so frustrating, I know.

Are there charities you could register and run with?

In my experience, there were plenty of bibs available the week before the La Jolla race through running friends, running groups, and craigslist. I had stopped training a month before or I would have picked up someone else's bib to run it. True, it's not transferable but if you want to run it just to do it there's always that option. There will be lots of folks not healthy and/or not ready the day of the event who will want to sell their bibs. Look around!
