Seattle Rock 'n' Roll

My husband is running his first marathon and I am running my first half marathon this summer! June 26th, Seattle Rock 'n' Roll! We're so excited! So, my first question (I'm sure I'll be back with many) is for the local mommies. Any suggestions on where to stay and what are the "must see/do" of Seattle?. We're traveling from Los Angeles. Which brings me to another question - if the race is Saturday, how far in advance should we arrive? Will be be sleeping all day Saturday after the race? Will we want to fly home Saturday night or Sunday?

Yay!

You go, Rebecca! I ran the inaugural last year, the full marathon, a year a 4 days after I had my son. It was my first race and it was incredible. I think that they were changing the course a bit, because of some feedback about switchbacks at the end--you go past the finish line 3 times before you actually get to cross it. I hardly slept before it (I was too afraid I'd miss it!) and was sore in my hip area for three days after. It was an incredible experience and my sister will be running the half this year with you! You'll do great!

p.s.) I don't think they do race-day registration so you'll probably have to be there the day before, to pick up your numbers, etc. Driving to the start line was also insane--I'd say take one of their public shuttling options. And you'll probably just be elated after the race, that you finished it, but enjoying the city at a slooow pace afterward for a couple days might not be a bad idea.

You'll do great!

I'm so jealous...I ran the half marathon last year and it was my first trip to Seattle. I wish I could go back this year. I would plan on being able to spend a little time in Seattle...it is such a cool city. We also spent time on the pennisula which I loved as well.
We stayed a Best Western Hotel that was right by the Seafront...It was nice because we were just able to walk back to the hotel after the race from Qwest field and it was also right by where the race was going on...so we were able to stand out on a little balcony our room had and cheer on the other runners who were still out there :)
(and a little sidenote-we weren't able to get to the expo the night before the race to get our numbers...but they had a little tent at the start line on the day of the race for people to go to that weren't able to make it to the expo-I think they just don't like to advertise that)

I'll be running it as my first half, too! You have to pick up the packets on Thursday or Friday before the race so you need to be here by then. They have some hotel suggestions on the website and they seem just fine. As for activities, it all depends on if you want to see the usual tourist hot spots (all wonderful) or if you want a more local experience. Either way, enjoy your stay!
