Hey Ladies,

I just got word from Sarah Bowen Shea from runlikeamotherbook.com that she is giving away a free entry to the sold out Nike Women's Half Marathon/Marathon. Here is info:

Here's a shortened link: bit.ly/8Zdfmy

And to celebrate the start of taper for the St. George Marathon, I would also like to give something away on this blog! I have the awesome book Run Like a Mother Book to give away to someone from this blog. It is a great book that I think all of you would relate to. It is funny, well written, and very poignant.

If you would like a chance to win the book, comment here on what makes you want to run and/or what keeps you motivated! Spread the word to your friends too!! And, as always, feel free to post and share your stories! We will randomly select the winner On Friday, September 17th, at 9pm PST.

Happy Training!!

Wow, that race giveaway looks amazing! I would love to enter to win but I'm not sure how to work the finances to get there if I did win. Maybe I'll try my luck!

I would love to win the book, it sounds like an amazing one that I could pass around my running group here.

As for why I run: like so many of you running mommies, it is to keep my sanity, to give me my "me" time, to think, to process life, to energize my soul. It meets so many of my needs: physical exercise, mental clarity and sanity, emotional well being, self esteem booster, and on and on. I wouldn't have ran my first marathon without this blog! All of the running moms inspire me SO much!

This book sounds great!
I run b/c I miss playing sports more than anything else from my life before children.

I run b/c I am a homeschooling mother to 4 boys, and my early morning runs are the only chance I get to be inside my own head.

I run b/c someone once told me that I couldn't.

I run b/c it feels so good to meet goals I set for myself.

I run b/c I love to see the world wake up and I love to be outside.

I started running in 2006 to lose weight. Now I run because I can and because I love it. I love getting out in the mornings and getting in some great exercise while my kids are sleeping. It's taper week for my first marathon ever TOU! Wish me luck!

I love this blog and someday maybe I will be a Marathon Mommy. Reading this book would hopefully help me to understand better how to successfully keep running as a mother. (I'm brand new at this) Yeah for reading and running.

I started running because I wanted to increase my aerobic capacity and get skinny. (because I just KNEW that all runners were skinny) Now I run because I'm addicted. I feel great when I'm out pounding the pavement with the wind, rain, and sun blazing against me as I run by. There is not much better than the rejuvenating solitude of a run.

Why I run...because I am a crazed woman without it. Because I love the feel of pushing myself so hard it hurts. So I don't yell at my kids. So I can eat what I want (well, mostly). So I can talk to my friends without interruption. Because it makes me feel good.

Why do I run???? I am one of those that can't run with music in my ears. Running gives me time to think and get myself motivated for the day. I work through any questions or difficulties I am having. Sometimes I have even taken my oldest on my runs, it has been great to have that one on one time with him without any other distractions. With three little ones at home I need any and all the time I can get by myself. I also run to push myself harder. So that when the time comes that I am tested physically I know that I can do hard things!!

I run because I can, and because it's excellent exercise!

I've heard alot of great things about that book. This is my 2nd time running the St George Marathon so that's motivation enough to get me to the finish!
Anyway, I run for so many reasons. First and foremost I run because it just starts my day off right. I run because my family says that I am so much nicer when I do (w/ever!) I just ran the Red Rock Relay over the weekend with a team that was put together the last minute and who would have thunk that a team of total strangers would leave as best friends. I run because I love the running community.

I run to feel better emotionally and physically. It is also a great motivator for me to train for and run races. My husband and I often run together (while he pushes our kids) so running is really becoming cherished family time oftentimes.

Running is my 'alone' time. When I am able to run, I am a much happier mommy. :)

Why I run: I have always struggled with my weight. I started running in junior high, just getting out, away from my stressful family, among the stars and the night sounds that drowned out everything but me and let me clear my head and focus on what mattered most to me.

Fast forward 14 years! YIKES!!! Now I have two-year-old twins and am expecting #3 any day now. Both pregnancies were unplanned and cut into my marathon and half-marathon preps for my goal to run a marathon before I turned 30. Well, that goal changed to running one while I'm 30, and the motivation is the same as before with a twist. Now I run not only for relaxation and to refocus but also because I need to remember ME! I need to remember amidst the Mommy Routines that I am a woman, capable and strong, able to do and accomplish difficult things that have nothing to do with my kids and getting away from the house. I run to remember, even after difficult pregnancies when I feel like I'm starting over again and again -- even when we've moved to a new area, climate, altitude, etc. -- that there is one thing that is constant: ME! And I CAN run; I CAN accomplish; I DO NOT live a life that is at the mercy of everyone else's schedules and needs because I TAKE CARE OF ME FIRST! I haven't done that for a very, very long time!

Thanks for this -- with just a few weeks to go, I needed this reminder. And I'm excited to get through this pregnancy and start running again!

There are many reasons why I run...but I mostly think it is the one little piece of the day that I can have to myself. I love the feeling of accomplishing something that I never thought I could. I think that having goals pushes farther than we ever thought that we could. I am also getting ready for my 2nd St. George marathon! Good luck to everyone else running it or TOU or any of the other great fall marathons!!!

I run because I t gives me more energy. I am happier after I run which makes me a better mom to my kids!

I run because I have found that when I can push myself to do hard things while running, I develop a greater ability to push myself to do hard things in life.

I want to run because I can't!! I've had a knee injury that I can't get over and the lack of running has left me missing it terribly in my daily life. It gives me a great feeling of accomplishment and I love running with friends! Therapy and exercise at the same time. Wish I was running a fall marathon with you all!
