Post-Marathon Blues

I ran the DC National Marathon last month and it was AWESOME! For my race report, you can click HERE.

Okay, so we've all heard of Post-Partum Depression, but have any of you ever suffered from Post-Marathon Depression? It's not an all-out state of feeling down. I just feel a little blue and have a complete LACK of motivation. Is it from the burnout of training so hard for 4 months and now I no longer have a workout to check off every day?

I mean, I am glad to have my life back because it is a crazy/busy one: 4 boys (make that 5 with the husband), early morning seminary, and a part-time job.

But now that all of that intensity is gone, I'm trying to figure out what to do next.

Should I do a half because I'm sure I could easily PR.
I'm thinking of doing a sprint triathlon, but I would need to take adult swimming lessons first. I'm definitely a 'less effective' swimmer.

**What have you done after your marathon was over, but you weren't feeling the immediate desire to do another one?**

I signed up for a trail ulta (50K) to combat that feeling. It's fun to take my marathon endurance and challenge it on the trails. Running in the woods is so different than the road that I don't feel burnt out at all.

Great job on that marathon!

I ran the same race...you can read about it here:
runningtodc.blogspot.com...and have been feeling VERY MUCH the same way. Seriously not sure what to do next. With the marathon ending and other major life changes, I feel so totally up in the air. I don't have any answers yet, but I'm hoping to get some here.

Nice job on your marathon! Great time!

I'm so focused on running during the weeks leading up to a marathon that I often feel a huge sense of relief once the race is over and I can finally try some new things (like a class or other physical activity). Maybe try a new class at the gym or another offering in your area? Spin classes are very fun.

I'm in the same boat. I also just rather the DC Marathon. It was wonderful! However, now I'm "taking a break."

I'm still exercising...but it's about half as much as I was running during my training.

It's hard to find something else to use up the time. And something else that helps me de-stress.
