Yesterday the NYC Marathon opened registration. Of course, they have a lottery system, so one isn't automatically "in" just for registering. I was tempted but the price made me hesitate and then ultimately decide against it. The non-refundable registration fee is $11 and is required for all applicants. NYRR members will pay $216, non-members in the US will pay $255 and and non-US residents will pay $347 to toe the line at NYC. If I got in, my cost would be $266 plus any fees, plus airfare (from the west coast), plus hotel. That becomes a price tag I simply cannot justify for myself.
What do you think of the price to run NY? Have you run it before? Worth this cost? Are you entering the lottery this year?

I had NO idea that it cost so much! I've done plenty of races and I've never paid more than $90. Wow! What does all that $ go to???
i didn't realize it was that high BUT i live in the area so i don't have to worry bout any other costs. with that being said, i have watched the race for over 15 years and it is truly like nothing i have ever seen. many friends have ran it and they do say it is a once in a lifetime amazing feeling. i say go for it...as there is no for sure getting in - it could be once in a lifetime bucket list kind of thing. and really the crowds on first avenue ......i might have to go register......
