running along the Deschutes

I only got in one run this week while in Sunriver but it was a gorgeous one! Four short miles on an out-and-back path along the beautiful Deschutes River with Mt. Bachelor in the background. During my afternoon run, the things that cycled through my head...

1.) I need to do a float trip on this river again. Here I am running and sweating like a crazy woman while other vacationers are floating lazily down this cool river.

2.) Suzie's recent post about her hot run in Utah. This was equally hot.

3.) Fly fishing. I must learn how to fly fish. Every time I see the Deschutes I think about learning to fly fish.

4.) Dr. Seuss' book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish:
Here are some
who like to run.
They run for fun
in the hot, hot sun.
.
Oh me! Oh my!
Oh me! Oh my!
What a lot
of funny things go by.

I love sunriver. You lucky girl. So impressed that you pulled out the dr. seuss during a run. I'm taking notes from you-- the runner/poet! ; )

I went to an extra long and challenging yoga class this morning instead of running because it was raining outside. it was great. But my legs are starting to get anxious.... they're ready to run again!

Glad you had a great time in Sunriver. I'd move to Bend in a heartbeat!

We are always thinking about moving to Bend! I love the energy and adventurous spirit over there.

I read the latest Runners World while on vacation and am now thinking that I definitely need to find a yoga class. Uta Pippig gives yoga credit for her running and I know you love it, too. Any advice for someone getting started? I've taken Bikram Yoga classes but thought maybe I could start with a DVD at home or something. ?

Sunriver is beautiful, but I have only seen it with snow on the ground. Now I definitely need to go in the summer sometime. Sounds like a beautiful run. You continue to amaze me with your running/rhyming skills. I will admit I listed to music my whole run today. (And I had to listen to "Eye of the Tiger" twice to get me up my last hill! Does this make me weak?! :-)

My main little bit of advice would be to stay away from any trendy dvds-- Denise Austen or Kathy Smith doing yoga.... no thanks!

My favorite DVD is called Power Yoga by Baron Baptiste. It has a green cover. I bought it at overstock.com, but that was a while ago. It is awesome and quite challenging. He is extremely clear and specific about what to do. There are so many different ways to go with yoga. I am a fan of power yoga and vinyasa ("flow yoga"). It is powerful movements done in a meditative flowing sequence, synchronized with breath.

I wrote a post about yoga on my blog a while ago, if you are interested. It has been life changing for me. I know that sounds dramatic, but it's the truth.

I love to talk about it anytime, just let me know.

p.s. I've heard of Bikram yoga, but have never tried a class. They have a Bikram studio in town, I just haven't done it.

This confirms you are definitely a poet on the run! I am amazed you are able to concentrate like that while running. I thought of one of your mental stategies during my long run on Saturday: naming animals that start with the letters of the alphabet going backwards (going backwards alphabetically, not running backwards!) This was around mile 15 and I wasn't thinking very clearly. I couldn't get past "V". I thought "viking", and it took me a minute to realize a viking wasn't a zoo-type animal. Yah, so I didn't get past "V".
