How YOU Doin'?

The title of this post is only sort of amusing if you've watched Friends and remember Joey's famous line. Anyhoo, how are you all doing-- with your training that is?

I think I'll post here each Monday morning with this title. Then, we can all report on our long runs over the weekend. I'm just assuming here that most of us save long runs for the weekend.

Mine was GOOD! I ran 13 miles while staying down south in Provo. My parents have a cabin up Provo Canyon, so I parked my car at Canyon View Park (about 2 miles up the canyon) and then followed the Provo River Trail for the entire run. It was snow packed, but still run-able in the canyon and then completely clear down in the city.

The strangest, most difficult part of this run for me (a die hard University of Utah fan) was that my turn around point (6.5 miles) was Lavell Edwards Stadium! Of all places!! So I spit on the ground and went on my way. KIDDING.....of course I'm KIDDING, people! You know I only bring this up because there are some Coug fans (alum, even!) amongst this group of running mamas.

But seriously, Provo is a BEAUTIFUL town and they have an amazing running/biking/walking trail. I loved it. (But not enough to live there. ha ha.)

OKAY, enough foolishness--

Chime in with your weekend training updates!

GO COUGS! :)

I am so familiar with the run you just described! I ran the Provo River trail many, many times while living in Provo. Do you know it goes all the way to Utah Lake? I started out running near Provo Canyon a lot when I was at BYU. But when we got married and bought a house near Utah Lake I ran that other end of the trail more often. I think I even prefer that end - tree covered, it follows the river, is flat and gorgeous! Oh, you having me pining for my old haunt.

But that wasn't your question, was it? I also ran 13 on Saturday and it was one of the best runs I've had in a while. I did most of it by myself at my own pace and it felt effortless and wonderful! I was able to pump up my music and enjoy the scenery. It is nice to mix it up like that every once in a while. I still prefer to run with my favorite mommies most of the time, but sometimes a solitary run is just what you need. I also bought new shoes on Saturday, so I am excited to run this week.

Dang. That was a long comment. I heart running. :)

I was supposed to run 12 on saturday but all I did was sprints to the bathroom. Always next week.

I had a great 11 miler on Saturday in the cold. I felt great all day until just after dinner..... that's when I started sprinting back and forth to the bathroom like Foxy. This was new for me..... anyone else suffer from "loose" ends on long run day? Sorry for the details.....

I have always had that problem after a marathon, but not so much during training runs. ("Runs"... *chuckle*) I actually read an article in Running Times about this phenomena recently. Apparently it is quite common. Unfortunately the article was inconclusive as to the big question: WHY? I'll try to find the article and link to it.

Running may increase bowel function; some runners develop diarrhea while others may develop excess gas.

chelle,
What do you think about me hijacking your thread and turning it into a discussion about diarrhea? :)

You girls are so funny. Chelle, you are cracking me up. I can't help but be a coug fan myself. While I am a UVSC alum, my husband is a BYU alum. Red/blue, whatever, we're all crazy runnin mommas! To the point, I had a GREAT run on Sat. How could I not, I ran the nookachamps half with Kelly. I got a PR and that felt really really great! I will be posting about it soon.

PS. It was so fun to meet a fellow "Mommy"!! M&M is great!! When we started the race, I forgot to have my garmin on the right screen and I didn't really know what was happening with it. I was kind of freaking out. M&M was saying, "your Ok, your OK" and I was saying, "no I'm not, no I'm not" So silly. It really was fun to meet her and have her there. :)
M&M is awesome!!!

Suzie - thanks for the help!!!

According to that fun article describing the lovely trots, I made several mistakes.... My routine was juggled quite a bit that day - perhaps that caused all the excitement.

Chelle, little did you know when you asked, How YOU doin' - you would get all of how I was doing....

Ya'll make me laugh. But I can't read all these comments without giving a shout out to THE one and only Utah State University. Yes I am an aggie- a True Aggie at that and will defend my blue and white roots to the death! Thank goodness football season is over. Poor USU football! But now we've started basketball and aggie sports can shine once again!
Oh, and my little take on the ever so slippery subject of runners'
gut? I think it is the energy gels. I think that stuff just kind of greases everything up and out it comes. Anyways, I'm not trainig for a marathon right now, but hearing you talk about your long runs( no not those runs) makes me miss it. It's such good therapy.

Poky Girl -
Utah State Hey Aggies all the Way!!! Yes, we are all so grateful that football season is over - I graduated from USU as well, and a true aggie - of course. How fun to have that in common.

Hey, I just want to remind you who won the football game, okay?! :-)
I ran on the Provo trail when I visited Utah a few years ago. I showed up to the local running group's Saturday run and it was pretty cool because the female winner of the St. George Marathon was in the club and she ran with us and then we all went to breakfast together. Pretty crazy!

I am feeling pretty good about my training! I love doing this with all of you!

I forgot about the "runs" part of this post. I have been lucky in that "area." My friend Suzie on the other hand had to run into a strangers house to use the restroom one time. It makes for quite a memory. I believe she wrote about it on the site somewhere!

Oh, I love the Provo River trail. I used to park at Canyon View and run up past Nun's Park and Bridal Veil to Vivian, then I would take the South Fork road for about 3 miles. I loved that. I'm sort of jealous, cause here in Ohio, "hills" are tiny and scarce.

My run on Saturday SUCKED!!! I couldn't believe how bad it was. I had cut back for the week because my ankles were bothering me, so I wanted to give them time to mend. I'd only run twice, for 2 1/2 miles each time. Then, on Saturday, I don't know what happened. I thought it would be so easy, but after about 2 miles I was ready to give up. My hips hurt, I had no energy, I couldn't get below a 10 minute mile.

It's so funny, though, how that horrible run makes me want to run more, so I can have a better run next time.

Team Hanni- When did you graduate from USU? I'm sure years after me. I'm so old. I graduated spring of 99 in Elementary Ed.

poky girl-

I feel so out of the loop! I'm still battling sinus infection and bronchitis...yes, both. (Not fun.)

I feel like such a wannabe lately. (le sigh)

I can't wait to go for an actual, honest to goodness run again. I miss it so!!!

Oh...and I haven't experienced trots as of yet. I'm not sure how that's possible.

Also:
California = Switzerland. Cannot choose sides. :)

Go Cougars!! I also ran on the same trail as many of you. How funny. I have been taking some time off because of my foot injury. I was training for a 1/2 marathon in AZ on February 2nd and my SIL moved up her wedding date to the 2nd!! So it's a no go now. Which I guess worked out since I have been off for 2 weeks now but I was still going to do the 10K at least. Oh well, I guess there will always be another one. I am hoping to get back to running next week.
