Run-for-the-Bling Contest

January 7 - January 31, 2008

  1. Go for a run. (It doesn't matter how far... ok, at least 1 mile, ok? Chasing a naughty, screaming child down an isle at Target doesn't count.)
  2. Come here (to this post) and comment each day you run. There is a link on the sidebar to bring you directly to this post each day. It will be helpful if everyone kept track of their own totals since we're doing this on the honor system anyway! example: Suzie Petunia, total runs to date: 1.
  3. Repeat until January 31!
  4. Whoever runs the most days by January 31 wins the BLING!

I haven't posted in awhile because running has been on the back burner. However, I ran today! My first official day of training for the Eugene (OR) Marathon began today. Yikes!

I ran 1.3 miles on the dreadmill-that counts right? I have a mean blister and I am trying to let it heal before the race on Saturday. Wish me luck!

I ran the half marathon on Saturday (a report to come, but let's just say Ang rocked it!) and then I ran a great tempo run this morning. Off to a good start for me! Total runs-6

I ran 1/14 and 1/15, so I'm up to 5.

And 1/16. 2.7 miles in 24 minutes at a normal effort. I'm a little surprised that I'm running under 9 minute miles, and I have you guys to thank. First, the contest made me keep going in the cold. Second, mapmyrun.com is awesome. I log my run every day and it tells me how fast I'm going. Sometimes the mapping gets a little irritating, but overall, what a great tool!

So now I'm 6.

Hey girls,

I love that this contest keeps me accountable! I ran a comfortable 3 on the treadmill last night and a dark, cold, icy 4.67 today with my running pals.

So, that is 8 for me!! Woo hoo!!

Sarah- Wow, that is cold! I am impressed, and I will quit whining!

I forgot to add that I love mapmyrun.com also! It is nice to find new routes that way.

Also, sticki niki you are rocking the treadmill!! (Can I run on it sometime, it actually sounds kind of fun. :-) I hope you join us for our long run on Saturday! You can definitely do Salt Lake!

You gals are doing great! I'm so proud of everyone. It is a great feeling to do something hard everyday. It is always worth the effort! (This coming from the girl who got up to run this morning and then fell back asleep in bed...) There is always tomorrow!

After a few days off due to that busy life excuse again, I had a great 4.25 mile run today (a new personal best for the mile!), taking my total to 4.

I ran on 1/18. My VTs told me yesterday that there's only two more months of winter and I nearly cried right in front of them.

day 6 for me.
last night at 10:00 pm i was thinking i was going to go to the gym so i could get a day in, but the thought of getting redressed in gear made me fall asleep.
but i made it bright and early this morning so i didn't have to make that kind of decision at 10pm again.

If I ever tell you "Oh, I'll run later tonight" ... it is a sure thing it will NEVER happen! Do you know a mom out there who has extra energy to burn after the kids are in bed?? Didn't think so.

Sarah (Suziepetunia)and I had a great 7 mile run this morning. We met at 6:30 instead of 5:30. Amazing what that extra hour does for me! She bought a mini speaker on clearance at Target and we hooked it up to my IPOD and both listened to the music. It was a fun change! So, that is 10 runs for me. :-)

I ran to CVS to get ibuprofen for a fevered child today. It was closed, so I had to run around the block until it opened. Grrr. I think that puts me at 9.

Hello? Where did everybody go? Is it as blisteringly cold in Utah as it is in Ohio? With the wind chill factor, it's 1 degree.

I ran 2.7 today, 1/23, so I'm at 10.

It was 9 degrees in Utah this morning when I went out--but that was out to my car, since I ran on the indoor track. Grand total of 7.

I know it is not as cold here in the Northwest as other places, but it is still cold!! I ran Monday, Wednesday and today, so I believe I am at 12. I LOVE this accountability. You guys are awesome!

I ran 1/26. I finally found some ladies to run with, who want to go all the way and do the marathon with me. We ran a 2.5 mile loop twice at the slowest pace I can remember ever running. I had a hard time thinking it was doing me any good. Is it any good to go that slow? I think we were going about 11:30 per mile. I can almost walk that fast.

I had a great 10 miler yesterday with Sarah and Niki. Niki- how did you feel? So, I believe I am up to 16 runs! No injuries yet with this tough schedule- knock on wood!

Sarah- Congrats on finding a running group. I personally think it is better to run slow, especially on your long runs. It really trains your body to burn the fat. It also trains your heart. So just enjoy it!!

My total is now 6 after a 7-mile run on Saturday. M&M--I had to walk one mile (but it was all up hill!), but I feel good about it overall. And I am not as sore as I was last Sunday!
