We are Nookachamps: Part 2

This race was so awesome. I had lots of people there running with me, the weather was good, I met M&M, and I got a PR. Doesn't get any better than that. :)

My sister in law Lindsay ran her very first half. (Actually this was her very first race ever too.) My brother Jordan who is 16 ran this as his very first race as well. He didn't train at all. One of the perks of being 16 I guess. My friend Debbie was there. She is all registered to run the SLC marathon. And of course, I finally got to meet M&M. It was so much fun to meet her! She knows A LOT about running and has been so kind to email me back and forth with my running questions. She is such a nice, fun gal. I know if the situation would have permitted, we could have sat around all afternoon talking about running, actually probably about everything! Fun fun.
We had a quick kind of crazy start together. (No gun, no nothing, just all of a sudden we were running!) I had the urge to go a little faster than I had planned, so I just went with it. For the first few miles I wondered if I would be able to keep it up, but I decided to not worry and just go for it. I was able to keep it up until mile 10. I hit a MAJOR wall. The course at this point seemed like it was gradually uphill for forever and my legs did not want to move anymore. I was worried because I really really wanted to break the two hour mark! I kept telling myself I couldn't give up because I was on pace to make my goal. Luckily there was an aid station at mile 11. I took a gel pack and got a quick drink and it really helped! I felt really good all the way to the end! I love the finish! Lindsay was already there and I got a little teary eyed as I saw here. M&M came in right after me, then my brother shortly after that, then Debbie. Oh, my time was 1 hour 56 minutes. My previous time was 2 hours 1 minute 36 seconds.

M&M's aunt took this pic of me just about to finish.

I couldn't help but post this video of my brother. It is so funny. He was really tired and hurting after the race. This video was taken about 45 seconds after he finished. Make sure to turn up your volume so you can hear him.

This is Lindsay who will be running the SLC half.

This is Debbie who will be running the SLC marathon.

That poor boy! I know how he felt.

You made your goal! That's so awesome. Your race sounds like my first 1/2. I went out so strong. I felt like I could keep it up forever at 8 minute miles (it was downhill), then at mile 10, my body just didn't want to go any further. I had to slow down to 10 minute miles, and my hips and knees hurt so bad. It's such a weird and crazy thing to do, but it's so great to know you've done it.
