Knee Pain

So...ever since my 1/2 marathon in SALT LAKE CITY I have had a hard time getting back into the swing of running every day. In fact, my Knee gives me a hard time almost every time I get out there. I went out and bought a strap for my IT band to help...but it doesn't seem to help. I've iced it and warmed it at night, but really nothing is making the pain go away when I run. Anyone else had this problem? HOw can I get myself back? I miss running every day SOOO much. And...I'm supposed to start training this next week for my next 1/2 marathon. Please help!

Get the foam roller and roll all along your IT band.

How old are your shoes? It may be time for a new pair!

when I was having IT problems the only thing that worked was rest & lots of stretching. I know it stinks, but you need to listen to your body so it doesnt get worse. Good luck ;-)

I second the comment about the foam roller. I will also recommend The Stick, which works really well for my intermittent ITB and knee problems. If you roll it along your ITB, hamstrings and your butt it will loosen things up so they aren't pulling your knee out of whack.

I second the stick. It works great! Also Suzie has a point, you might need new shoes! Good Luck!

You might need to try some ibuprofin for a week, too. Just a thought. (2-3 x's a day, for 7 days.)

Thanks so much you guys. I will try your suggestions! I have wondered about the shoes, they are fairly new...but ever since I started running in them I have had a harder time running...might need a better pair.

I had lots of problems with my IT band. A stretch that works for me is to sit on the edge of a hard chair cross your ankle over your knee and lean forward slightly. You'll feel the stretch in your hip and glute. Even if your knee starts feeling good you have to keep it loose by stretching regularly. Good luck!
