So, experienced Marathon Moms out there.. I need some more advice.
I ran 14 miles 2weeks ago and was fine but woke the next day with pain in my left foot. Since then i have taken off from running and incorporated swimming (went 4 times this week). I am happy to report i ran a mile on Friday with no problems and plan to go for a 2 mile run this afternoon. Hoping for no problems.
I need to try and figure out where to start and how to progress. My first marathon is 8 weeks away. My longest run has been 14 miles, what do i do now. Where I begin. What if i cant get in a 20 miler before the race? I am at a loss on how to prepare from this point and feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Any advice?

If you have been following a training schedule, I would try for at least one more long run- two if possible...but I would not do much long run training at least 3-4 weeks prior to the marathon. My best marathons were when I cross- trained anyway. If it is hard to get the long run in, try for just one 3 hour run and don't worry about miles. I think you need at least a good 3 hour run or about 15-18 miles and you will still be able to finish.... I did not need to do much more than that and I finished just fine. I would really be careful of your injury and let it heal. You can also do the run/walk thing (run for 9 min. walk for 1, etc) and when I did that I had less pain, quicker recovery, and felt so much better...Just be kind to your body. Don't underestimate the power of MENTAL prep. too. When I ran marathons and did not get all my long runs in, I did LOTS of mental prep. and that really really helped-despite my lack of training... Hope that helps. best of luck.
oh thanks so much for advice! makes me feel better... makes me think i can actually still make it. :)
I totally agree with Sharla. I just did my first marathon on Saturday (woo hoo!) and my injury unfortunately didn't cooperate with me and I had to do the run/walk thing. My mental attitude is TOTALLY what got me through it. I don't want to psych you out by saying too much about the injury part... just nurse it like crazy and see a physical therapist to get help. Whether you think you can or think you can't, you're right- Henry Ford, my fav quote! Good luck.
I am thinking of you. I agree with everyone else. Continue to rest it and keep up with the cross training. I think seeing a specialist is important because they can tell you the extent of the injury. Definitely don't give up yet!
Keep us posted!
Thanks everyone!
I hope to give another 2 miles a try tomorrow morning... will see. so far so good though.
:) i am def going to keep up the swimming!
thanks again!
