week before the marathon blues

My second marathon is looming closer... and closer. December 7th.  I've had a knee injury and a cold in the last two weeks and I'm feeling super run down.  I've trained about a 1/3 less miles than I did for marathon #1 (kid #2 is a wee bit responsible for this change in my mileage) and I'm feeling like I'm not going to beat my last time.  I know what you'll say... "It's not about the time...it's about finishing" (this is even if this post will actually make it up anywhere.... my first time blogging and I don't even get it... google account, password, then this screen popped up...but then what?) It is about finishing, but oh man, do I want to beat my last time.  I guess in the end, just seeing my family at the finish line, my kids clapping like I'm a rock star, will make it all worth it. Now...to sleep so that I can get 7 hours in until my little guy wakes up at 5am! =(

Hey Brandy! Good luck this weekend! You're going to do great. Seriously, no matter how you do, when you finish I KNOW you'll have done GREAT. :-)

Reread your post. You have a wee one - and you're running a marathon. That's pretty rock-star to me! I know you have a time goal, but it IS about finishing. And really, you have done an amazing job training at all with a little one waking up at 5 am! I hope you feel better and GOOD LUCK!

I think you are awesome to have trained for a marathon and have a small baby. Amazing!
I had a really bad cold when I ran Philly last year, but after a few miles the cold symptoms went away until a couple hours after the race.
Good luck!

I can't wait to hear how your race goes. I will be in Vegas this weekend, but leaving on Saturday night. I will be thinking about you! It is tough to train with a baby, but that race I did with a little one is the one I am most proud of. It takes dedication to wake up to run when your nights are ruled by a baby. Just enjoy the ride! Don't start too fast, yada yada!

That sounds exactly like me before my San Fran marathon in October. I was totally sick and had a knee out of commission and time goals luming around me. The great news is that whatever is going on, come race day, it all goes away. The adrenaline of the race, the crowd, the immense feeling of being there and being so proud of yourself for taking a marathon on totally pushes all of the pain and sickness away. You are going to do amazing! Remember that 90% of it is in your mind. If you can believe you really can achieve. (Sounds cheesy, I know) But positive thinking really does help in situations like that. It helped me beat my last time by 3 minutes. It wasn't the goal I wanted but I was happy with it! You will totally do great! Can't wait to hear how it goes!

One more thing, Don't forget to add "So what, I'm a rock star" by Pink to your playlist. It's a great motivator along the way!

Wow! This is my first blogging experience and I'm totally overwhelmed with what great advice and just, how generally nice y'all are! I really, really appreciate those words, from mom to mom. I'm packing for my trip to Sacto tonight...taking Amtrak there tomorrow. It feels like a little adventure. I've also never been away from my 2 1/2 year old (isn't that just craaaaazy?) so it will be a little sad! =( I'm really looking forward to the running expo the night before and pasta with some friends. I will definitely write about how it went. I'm getting really nervous but really excited! I may write again from the hotel with lots of nervous energy! Thanks! Brandy

Wishing you luck! I too have a 5 am wake up call from baby (and a 2 or 3 am one as well). It's tough. I admire you! I'm lucky to be eeking out a few runs a week. Have a great run this weekend.
